I wasn't trying...Bob, thanks for the response.

I wasn't trying to be snarky with regard to my remarks about Football Outsiders/advanced statistics, although it may have come across that way.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12784635547063205952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10242068.post-61062745540666798782012-09-18T21:30:08.008-05:002012-09-18T21:30:08.008-05:00I am quite familiar with those essays and generall...I am quite familiar with those essays and generally agree with the premise. Then, I broke down the game plans of the last 68 Cowboys games and arrived at the conclusion that those essays do not apply to this Cowboys team.

I shall elaborate more in this week's mailbag, so more people can read our debate.

Thanks-Sturminatorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03512218221714280831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10242068.post-39350492779020356782012-09-18T19:04:30.473-05:002012-09-18T19:04:30.473-05:00Bob, I think you're confusing causation/correl...Bob, I think you're confusing causation/correlation with regard to the +25 rushing attempts. The winning percentage is better because they're protecting a lead. They're running out the clock. Teams don't typically win games by allowing the RB pound his way X amount of times. By the way, Football Outsiders and other football writers sympathetic to advanced stats have written about this many times. I know you're familiar with Football Outsiders' work, so I was surprised that you came to this conclusion.

As to whether the Cowboys should have ran the ball more, I'm not sure. Murray had 12 carries for 44 yards (3.7 YPC). Seattle is well known for their stingy run defense. From watching the game live, as well as seeing a few all 22 clips from other sources, it seemed like Seattle played heavy toward the line of scrimmage with Earl Thomas back deep on many plays. That, I think, would encourage passing plays. Especially considering the talent Dallas has at WR/TE (and RB if you consider Murray a receiver in this context).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12784635547063205952noreply@blogger.com
