The reality is that Dirk has been playing with trash and making them look somewhat edible. I think we're still 1 move away, but that won't likely come until this summer.

To answer your question Jay - this is Haywood's last year, and Butler's contract expires next year...very reasonable.

I want Haywood back, but I hope the Mavs don't stay true to their form and overpay another big man. As for Butler, I think this is where it gets interesting. Could the Mavs package Dampier's expiring contract with Butler and Roddy B for a big-time free agent this summer!?!
Lebron would be trying to catch a Rainbow (but we can dream), but Joe Johnson may be somewhat realistic, and a huge upgrade.ben8ganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03718860346316212557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10242068.post-86538186367269392592010-02-23T12:04:07.327-06:002010-02-23T12:04:07.327-06:00Man I love Haywood/Butler. I cringe seeing Najera back there, that's hopefully temporary.

Still want a real backup PG whether it's Von Wafer or Roddy emerging or JJ in spots. JJ is a trick player and he can be a nice weapon but not somebody you need to rely on.Jay Callicotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02894239815256855794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10242068.post-7196681702356077082010-02-23T09:41:36.174-06:002010-02-23T09:41:36.174-06:00Bob,

But when I compare the team now with the team you mentioned from last March - wow! It makes me wonder how we even got to the playoffs last year.

And with every game I watch since the trade, I get more and more optimistic. Now, I actually look forward to Lakers, Spurs, Nuggets games instead of fear them.

Go Mavs!Chuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15051024617016467908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10242068.post-62382993845834332992010-02-23T09:40:20.824-06:002010-02-23T09:40:20.824-06:00I'm loving it!

Not yet.

Let's remember something else about the Denver series specifically but the West's powers generally. The Maverick's biggest challenge in that Denver's series was the Nuggets frontcourt. Big, athletic, mean, quicker, stronger, etc., etc.

And not only that, but deep. And the same goes for the Lakers and San Antonio. Deep front courts that have different types of players but they all pose problems because they can run out two to three quality bigs/forwards that can kill you in one or more aspects of the game.

The Mavs need to get Gooden back on this roster (or an equivalent productive role-player forward/center).

Along with Dampier's many other faults, this season he can't stay healthy. Haywood by himself is not the answer. The Mavs need another young, athletic big to run out there to be truly dangerous. Otherwise, this is simply a "nice" move that has no playoff payoff.

Gooden has his own faults, but he was selling out for the Mavs this season. He's a guy that could play the 4 with Haywood or shift over to the 5 if needed with Dirk at the 4.

You're right, though. This is not only the same episode, it's like changing the channel.TSYhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04601199774317962699noreply@blogger.com
