A Sad, Sad Day

Today is Wednesday, April 13, 2005. If you are (were) a fan of this great sport, then today would be the first day of the happiest time of your year. Today would be the first day of the playoffs. I have come to terms with hockey being gone to a point where my depression has really been non-existent. But today is a moment where the sad piano starts playing and my head hangs a little lower.

Hockey is dead.

The Cup will not be skated.

I will never forgive and forget the spring of 2005.

Chris Young shelled again

Young, who lasted only four innings because of a high pitch count April 7 against Los Angeles, added to the Rangers' dubious achievement of having an American League-worst 5.32 ERA and 31 strikeouts entering Tuesday's game. The Rangers have also allowed 13 multi-run innings in their last six games. Three have come against Young.

Happy 10th Birthday, MLS

The soccer fanatics say year 10 represents living, breathing proof that soccer is on its way to surpassing the big boys of American sport.

Those who are out of touch say the sport is still irrelevant.

The truth is that MLS sits somewhere in between those extremes.

Gordon wins #71

Sunday marked his sixth win at Martinsville and his 71st Cup win overall. At age 33, he is just 5 wins shy of Dale Earnhardt's 76-win total. It was also his second trip to Victory Lane in six races this season; he won the Daytona 500 in February, marking his sixth win at that track as well.

As lukewarm hockey fan who does follow the Stars, I can honestly say that right now, I would rather hear 10 segments of gay/not gay or even Ranch Reports instead of hockey talk. I am just disgusted with the whole thing.

  2. So, so depressing. Thank you, NHL, for leaving me to focus all of my attention on a basketball team that can't make layups in the final two minutes of a three point game (I'm looking at you, Marc Jackson) and a football team overrun by selfishness, greed, and ego.

    Thank god for baseball.

  3. I think RA isn't really hurt. He just got a case of the Chan's. "Strained back"? Come on. They're just clearing the way for the OKC shuffle because RA wouldn't clear waivers (I think).

I still have the theme to the Dallas Stars Playoff Postgame show playing in my head today, regardless of outright stupidity in the NHL boardrooms.

    One, two, three, four!

Dallas Stars Playoff Postgame Show. (Live from Planet Bob!)

It was the first team to four. (DUH-NUH!) Didn't matter how you got to four. (DUH-NUH!) Just get there before the other team, (DUH-NUH!) and you won the series.

I felt EXACTLY the same disappointment and disgust about Major League Baseball during their period of strike nonsense...and have never fully recovered the excitement that I had for the game.

    It's a bummer.

The Rangers are done. They won't sniff 50 wins.

Aggie Hot Alert. Go find a copy of the Aggies Spring Football Guide magazine. Turn to Coach Frans page and feast your eyes on the family photo. Two very hot blonde daughters. Couldn't find any age details bit they look legal.

Congrats on the your Reds holding off a hostle crowd to set up an all English semi. This is nice to see after reading comments that English clubs have fallen behing their European counterparts in competition.

I'm hoping Liverpool is tired for this Saturday's match and the Spurs can get a win to set up a return to Europe.

    Go Spurs!

    Bob,
I know you are a Jeff Gordon fan, and that's ok...at least someone at the Ticket likes Nascar. But regarding Gordon, he has never won at Texas and I hope he never will. The only reason he won last week at Martinsville is because he turned Kurt Busch into the wall. You might want to tap on the break for this week as I'm sure a little "payback" is in order.
