Meanwhile, Baseball Analysts rates Lastings Milledge …Who is the top Rangers target from the Mets…
12. Lastings Milledge- OF- New York Mets- 20
Derek Zumsteg had a very good piece profiling Lastings’ sketchy background, which (combined with his signing bonus) was the reason that Milledge was not a top-five pick. That background is also one of the only flaws against him, who should definitely be considered the best five-tool talent in the minor leagues. The Mets, who frankly could use a new development staff, promoted Milledge a bit early, where upon he was disastrous in the Florida State League. He’ll get a second chance in the league this season, and this time should be ready. I think the world of Milledge, and it’s unfortunate that we won’t be able to see him roam centerfield in Shea Stadium. Well, I guess not too unfortunate for the Mets. What’s really fun is imagining a Milledge-Beltran-Cameron outfield, and the amazing defense that could produce. Even more so, at least with Lastings and Beltran, is the top offense.
And ESPN's John Sickels says :
Milledge has the best overall potential of any prospect in the Mets farm system, and one of the highest pure physical ceilings in the game overall. If he can develop the skills to go with his tools, he can be a star. Will he develop those skills? The early returns are mostly positive, but we need to see if he can hone the strike zone. He doesn't need to draw 100 walks a year, but even adequate plate discipline would make him a special player.
Incidentally, it appears this sketchy background is discussed Here ...Underage Sex Stuff...
Rangers prepare for the deadline …
Hicks refused to second-guess the organization's winter thinking, when it passed on the free-agent market.
The Rangers believed the market was bloated, and opted to stay away from the likes of Carl Pavano, Jaret Wright and Odalis Perez, all of whom got multiyear deals worth in excess of $7 million per year.
"Some of the dumbest deals I've ever seen were the deals that were made for pitching this winter," Hicks said. "There are a lot of clubs that wish they could take those deals back. We've got to address starting pitching, but we've got to find a different way."
A different way? What did you have in mind, Hicks? Barter? Perhaps a couple of raccoon pelts and maybe a bushel of tomatoes? If you want pitching, you MUST pay the price.
By the way, Revo says Hicks should shut up …
Stars – Modano to meet soon …And finally, one of the sides says something that makes you slightly optimistic:
"If the Stars are serious about me staying here, it shouldn't be hard to do," Modano said. "I think they can get creative and still not hurt the team in any way."
You know, the more I talk to people (Jim Lites yesterday) the more I think he is done here. They really appear fine with building the team around Brendan Morrow. I sure hope I am wrong.
Meanwhile Hatcher wants security, too …
"You can put this on the record, I won't go anywhere on a one- or two-year deal," said Hatcher, 33, from his home in Michigan. "I'm not going to pick up my family every year or so and move them to another team. I need to have some security."
Shocking. A player wants security.
Aikman re-signs with Fox for 7 years …where’s my money?
Ernie Harwell loves today’s game …no Good Old Days Syndrome here…
Skip Bayless decides to take a run at Lance Armstrong …
But forgive me if I don't leap aboard the P.C. bandwagon and anoint him the greatest all-around athlete and greatest athletic performer ever. I'd just be selling out so the legion of Lance lovers would love me, too. My mission, as I see it, isn't to tell you what you want to hear.
It's to tell you the truth: Armstrong is limited when you compare him with the greatest athletes and clutch performers because he rides a bicycle.
But if you're a cycling zealot, and you want to believe he's the greatest athlete ever, believe away. I have friends who are so consumed by cycling -- training, racing, talking about nothing but -- that to suggest to them Lance is anything but a wing-footed god is blasphemy.
Gary Hogeboom in Survivor 11 …
Sweet.
Looks like Pronger is going to be available for a VERY high price, the blues said yesterday that they aren't buying out anyone and will have a cap range around $30M...
ReplyDeleteIt's not very often that I say this, but Bob and Dan made me very proud yesterday. When they equated Hicks spending talk with the beating of Kenny Rogers talk, I thought, these guys are "All Growns Up".
ReplyDeleteHicks is not going to change his ways with the Rangers or Stars. We are stuck with his business model until he sells the teams. @#$@!^% it!!!!!!
I really have never rode a bike in my life. I just talk a lot of nonesense mostly. I suck for sure
ReplyDeleteAll this trade talk is giving me happy sports pants.
ReplyDeleteSkip is right. Lance can't be a great athlete because he isn't black.
ReplyDeleteand black people don't know how to ride bikes
ReplyDeleteTom Hicks calling some baseball deals "dumb"?
ReplyDeleteHello Pot? This is Kettle. You're black.
There are many ways to feel secure and money is just one of them. Yes Hatcher probably has all the money he will ever need. I think what he is trying to say is that he doesn't wish to be a vagabond for the rest of his career signing short-term deals and moving himself and his family from city to city.
ReplyDeleteAll I know is that some of these NHL players are going to be in for a RUDE awakening once they hit the open market next week. They can talk about needing "security" all they want, but when the long term offers simply aren't there for many of them, they'll have to end up signing on simply for whatever they can get in the end.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Fors is going to be available also... there is no way the Avs can afford him now. he will be a $6M-MAX out player
ReplyDeleteAnd Patrick, the blues are going to sign some serious spares it looks like. they want a team that will sell easily.
is it really underage sex if your 16...I mean isn't 16 underage, I thought there was like a three year barrier or some such. It would be alot worse if he were 30 or 20 sleeping around with 12 and 13 year olds...I don't think its so bad if your 16, sounds like Lastings got a bum wrap on that one...
ReplyDeleteIn Texas, we have a 24 month statute on consentual sex in situations like Lastings. "IF" it was truly consentual sex between a 16 (or even 17) year old and a 15 year old within 24 months of age, then it's not statutory rape. I don't know about Florida.
ReplyDeleteHowever, inappropriate contact could mean lots of things. I.e. What the contact was? Was he her camp counselor-church intern? Boyfriend? Did he give her drugs or alcohol? Put a gun to her head? The words "inappropriate & contact" have to be looked at individually.
So, if it was simply a slight age difference thing, well in most states, no big deal. But without knowing more, it's hard to tell.
Think about this, 12 years old is 7th grade for most people...(shutter).
Hogeboom or Hogebloom?
ReplyDeleteIf Lance Armstrong were a marathoner would he get more respect? I honestly don't understand how the Tour isn't basically an extremely long, mountainous marathon--with a bike. I don't understand how cyclists can't be considered pure athletes simply because there's a bicycle involved.
ReplyDeleteW
ESPN also gave jobs to Sean Salisbury, Tim Legler, Screaming A. Smith (aka, Stephen A. Smith), Trev Alberts, and Mark May.
ReplyDeleteSo the fact that Skip Bayless still works for them is pretty much par for the course.
skip bayless is a moron...
ReplyDeletesince when is playing two sports a requirement to be considered one of the best athletes in the world? that's ridiculous. also, allen iverson is a better athlete than lance b/c he is quicker? did skip think about reversing the argument to whether deion or bo jackson or allen iverson could do what lance has done or something similar? to say that lance doesnt have to hit a shot with 2 seconds left or hit a walk off homerun in a game 7 is obvious and a stupid argument when trying to compare athletic acheivements. no one he mentioned could endure the demands of riding stage after stage in the tour. the tour de france is probably the most grueling sporting event there is in the world, and to dominate it 7 years in row like lance has makes him one of the greatest athletes in history regardless of whether he ever had to perform in a clutch situation or not. maybe skip should learn about the sport he is trying to talk about before he speaks out of his ass.
skip is an f-ing idiot...
Maybe things have changed but when I served on the Tarrant County grand jury in '98 the "three year" rule was in effect. Basically statutory rape was not charged if the two "participants" were no more than 3 "numerical" years apart in age. That is to say any body between their 19th and 20 th birthdays was considered to be "19" and anybody between their 16th and 17th birthdays was considered to be "16" and within the boundaries of the law even if they were in fact almost four full years apart.
ReplyDeleteAtty Dan = Lawyer
ReplyDeleteDick24 = Juror
Who would have a better understanding of the law?
I heard Lance was going to move to competitive triathalons, that would be fun to see.
funny thing about that Bayless, He kicked off this little Ticket...
ReplyDeleteYeah, yeah he got dumped. And I agree he is terrible. I would rather hear what his brother the chef has to say about sports.
MYNWA
Go Liverpool
3-1 ahead 2nd half
Since when has Jim Lites ever made personel decisions?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes Skip Bayless is an idiot. I bet that old stupid looking fool couldn't ride a bike two blocks without passing out.
What the hell Bob?
ReplyDeleteWhere is the effin blog?
