Camping with the Cowboys

Some exclusive Cowboys observations from practice:

Anthony Henry sure looks the part. He is big and strong, the perfect CB to compete against the big WR in this division. Not saying he will stop Terrell Owens or Plaxico Burress, because no one does, but he has a much better chance than any corner the Cowboys have had out there for years. It is really impressive to see his size; he looks like a safety, but with better speed. As little as I knew about him when he signed, I must tell admit that he seems just what they need.

If there is even one injury at WR, they are so screwed.

The Offensive Line is going to be the key again this year, in my opinion. And, that is not good news. Right Tackle is a mess, and Left Tackle is even worse if Flozell Adams ever gets hurt. Guards and Center appears to be in pretty good shape as Johnson, Allen, Rivera, Gurode, Peterman, and Noll combine to give you plenty of depth and quality. But the corners with Adams, Vollers, Tucker, and Rogers leads me to believe that you will need support from TE and RB on passing downs lest your QB gets murdered by teams with speed rushers around the corner. In practice, the Cowboys pass rush has been beating the tackles with some regularity.

Speaking of that, Demarcus Ware is an amazing talent. Marcus Spears has not jumped off the page at me, but I notice Ware constantly. On one play, he got to the QB without Vollers even touching him.

Drew Bledsoe is likely ramping up to speed slowly, but his throws have been pretty erratic at this point. Henson is up and down, and Tony Romo, primarily playing with and against the 2’s and 3’s looks the most accurate of the bunch so far. He also throws a very nice deep ball. Not saying he is your best option, but he may have something…

Rangers WIN a home game!!!…And Nevin (above) shows a pulse…

Let’s catch up on the latest Mavericks News, shall we?

Yesterday, Word on the streets was that Dallas was looking to swoop in on Van Exel and Christie

According to league sources, the Mavs are trying to sign point guard Nick Van Exel, who was a vital part of the team's success when Dallas advanced to the 2003 Western Conference finals. Portland waived Van Exel on Wednesday, choosing not to retain him for the nonguaranteed money ($12.8 million) remaining on his contract for the upcoming season.

The Mavs also are discussing the possibility of signing potential free agent swingman Doug Christie, who might be released by Orlando through the league's new amnesty rule .

Mavs officials refused to comment on Van Exel, but a source said: "Obviously there's interest. We're looking for a backup third point guard, and he looks nice in a Mavs uniform.

"He's definitely a fit for what we're looking for. It's just a matter of him making a decision."

But today, Nick considers Houston the favorite

Meanwhile, The people in San Antonio thought they could send Rasho here …sorry, no more big white stiffs, please…

Then there's the Nesterovic factor. A source outside the Southwest Division confirmed Wednesday that the Spurs offered Nesterovic to Dallas for Tariq Abdul-Wahad, and the Mavericks turned it down.

Why would the Spurs want Abdul-Wahad, an injury-plagued swingman who has played only 14 games over the past three seasons? To dump a large portion of Nesterovic's contract.

The Day is finally here! Pizza Hut Park to Open tomorrow Night …I can’t make it, but I will be there next Saturday night….FC Dallas could use a win, as they are in a small slide right now…

Joe Morgan on the steroids punishment

Morgan, 61, also dared baseball to continue justifying Pete Rose's exclusion from the Hall of Fame for betting on baseball if known steroid users are inducted.

"All those years, I was the guy who said Pete needs to be punished, and he has, for 16 years," Morgan said of his former Cincinnati Reds and Phillies teammate. "But how long are these guys going to be kept out?

"If you are going to let people into the Hall who have done steroids, then you have to let Pete Rose in, because this (steroids scandal) has hurt baseball more than what Pete did."

Stars now look for bargains

Veteran wingers, including Brad May, are a possibility, as is bringing back Rob DiMaio, who said Thursday he has talked to the Stars, but been told to "sit tight."
The Stars would also like to sign a veteran goalie, possibly Steve Shields or Trevor Kidd, who doesn't mind sitting behind Turco for eight consecutive games.

Man Kills Wife over sports

A man who got angry with his wife because she wanted to cuddle after sex when what he really wanted to do was watch sports on television was sentenced to death for killing her with a claw hammer.

Christopher Offord, 30, was sentenced Wednesday by Circuit Judge Dedee Costello, who said the brutality of the crime outweighed any mental problems Offord may have had.

Bob, you make me cry with the Dilfer story, laugh with the cab driver video and then frustrate the crap out of me with the Parcell's a$# whip press conference every day at 1:30. If there is a God in heaven, this needs to be moved to 10:30 every day.

Dang it. I couldn't wait to see Hatcher and Roenik share a Flyer bench. JR's jaw would probably snap just sitting next to Derian.

    In regards to Mavs salaries...
Ta-wahad makes 8 times the amount of money paid to Josh Howard?

This is insane.....Ta-wahad has never been healthy of the mavs. I fell out of my chair at work when seeing how much that guy is getting paid to rehab whatever it is he is rehabing here in dallas.

The wrong man on this page killed his wife. Doug Christie should've done the killing of his wife.
This is a warning to all men with a wife or feminin partner-
If he signs here, you will be compared to Christie. How often do you signal to your wife or life partner(for Dan) at work?

Love the pic...was that on black velvet? Nice.

Dear God, please no Doug Christie. Unless the Mavs are seeking a team of Bald white dudes who whip my ass...Maybe they can convince Danny Frickin Ferry to come out of retirement to join Christie, trade Dirk for Bowen, and add another possible point guard in Bibby. Seriously, the NBA shouldn't worry about age requirements...just keep the spare white dudes out!

    Hey Bob? Bob? Hey Bob?

    I love you. p1Dean
