The Aikman ratings featured in the New York Times…
This season, teams with the higher combined Aikman rating have won 82.6 percent of the time, but the teams with the higher offensive yardage in a game have won 67 percent of the time. "That's what validates it," Aikman said. "The measurements we use are inherent in teams being successful."
The Aikman statistics are yards per rush and yards per pass; third-down conversions; total first downs; adjusted points (total scoring minus points from returns and safeties); red-zone performance; and turnovers. They are, in essence, flip-flopped to generate the defensive A.E.R.'s.
Aikman and Henzler said that critics might carp about the categories or the weight given to each one. "That would be nibbling at the edges," Henzler said. Aikman said he would let his stats evolve if better ways were suggested.
"We batted it all back and forth," Odioso said. "We had a real flurry of e-mails, and he had clear ideas about what he wanted. He likes the N.F.L. passer rating, so we came up with a scale that was similar to them."
With 100 as the best Aikman rating (compared with the quirky 158.3 for the peak passer rating), the formula places the Colts as the top offensive team at 93.1, and the Bears as the No. 1 defensive team, also with a 93.1.

Padilla confused about where he has been traded …As he claims he has been traded to an easier park…We’ll check with him in August…
"I'll be comfortable throwing what I like to throw here," new Rangers starter Vicente Padilla, acquired from Philadelphia, said Tuesday. "Over there, sometimes I was scared to throw the fastball. A fly ball was a home run. Here, I'm going to be much better."
Plenty of teams can play the spoiler …Including talk of the game I will attend on Christmas Day…
That doesn't bode well for the presumably playoff-bound Bears, who visit Lambeau Field on Christmas Day and are trying to hold off the Vikings in the NFC North. I realize Chicago abused Favre and the Packers just a week ago, but -- and the Bears know this -- you can never take the Packers for granted so long as Favre's at quarterback. He still can beat you.
Sherman's right. Remarkably, though they've lost 10 games, the Packers have matched their opponents wit 255 points this season. They haven't really been blown out of any game, with half of their losses coming by a combined 12 points. I'm talking about losses to the Panthers and Vikings (twice) by a field goal and to the Browns and Buccaneers by two points and one point, respectively. If I thought the regular-season finale at home against Seattle was going to matter in terms of playoff seeding, I wouldn't be so sure about that game, either.
Yes. We, as Packers fans, are really pathetic this year.
FC Dallas stands to lose Carlos Ruiz and Eddie Johnson (first for the World Cup, then for his new European Club)…It was a good run…

Hey, Baylor had more players on the All-America team than A&M, Oklahoma, and Tech combined.
ReplyDeleteI realizd that White Elephant Christmas signifies the end of normal programming for the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteMy question is, what's the BaD Radio schedule for the rest of the year? Surely it's not the Throw-Down or Fat guy and Wanna be Black guy all day for the next couple of weeks.
You may want to check your 100 yd rusher stat - I'm pretty sure KC lost their game despite Larry Johnson's best effort.
ReplyDeleteI know we do this every week, but psu scott did not read the "week 13" and my admission that it happened 10 days ago, obviously. 10 days ago, KC beat Denver.
ReplyDeleteLove you
Ah, my mistake... Carry on.
ReplyDeleteI don't really think you should count Wash twice in your count. I think that's bad methodology because it record of "teams" with a 100 yard rusher, not "record of 100 rushers". Washington doesn't have 2 teams, even if they have 2 rushers.
