1) – Bill Parcells is your coach. He will be in charge, and T.O. can either deal with that or be released.
2) – His contract is constructed with behavior clauses, so that he can be released at the first sign of trouble.
3) – His contract is short term.
With these three stipulations, I think it might be worth the trouble. And make no mistake, he can still be considerable trouble, but I think he might be on his very best behavior as he tries to regain his ability to make a living. Like Keyshawn Johnson, I expect that at least for 2006 and maybe even 2007, you will see Owens as the biggest angel he can be.
But, most think I am out of my mind. One NFL Personnel guy who heard the show yesterday has advised me to “put my crack pipe down”. He also indicated that if this happens it is 100% Jerry Jones and 0% Bill Parcells. That would concern me greatly, of course.
He is still about as talented a WR as there is in this league, and the Cowboys still struggle to score points. I am not saying Owens is your only option, but this offense must get a playmaker and I would think that given the circumstances, he should be considered strongly.
Of course, the theme of many emails is that no Cowboys fan would endorse a move to acquire the man who once desecrated the Star. Maybe not, but touchdowns heal many hurt feelings. Time will tell…
Tempers flare as Stars sweep Canucks this weekend …
The NHL’s attempt to create rivalries by scheduling consecutive games against the same opponent appeared to work Monday. Playing the Canucks for the second time in three nights, the Stars were definitely annoyed. Vancouver tried valiantly to get into Marty Turco’s head, and Turco responded by being the catalyst in a penalty-filled second period. Stars defenseman Trevor Daley received a total of 22 penalty minutes (some coming from his first two NHL fights) while defending Turco, and a skirmish between Turco and Vancouver’s Alexandre Burrows resulted in three players receiving 10-minute misconduct penalties.
Burrows was trying to clear snow away from Turco’s crease during a long stoppage in play while officials were sorting out several penalties.
"I take exception to people clearing snow that’s already been cleared," Turco said.
"That’s my house and I want to take care of it."
Modano was once again dominant last night. The stat of the night was provided by the Stars PR department:
Modano through 64 games last two seasons (entering last night's game):
2003-04 - 13 goals, 23 assists = 36 points -18
2005-06 - 23 goals, 37 assists = 60 points +25
Think he has regained his form?

Terrell Owens to get cut today …
One way or another, Terrell Owens' tumultuous two-year tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles is almost certain to end Tuesday, likely with the team releasing the exiled wide receiver who played in only seven games in 2005.
The seven-year contract that Owens signed with the Eagles in 2004 stipulates that the team is to pay him a $5 million bonus if he is on the roster for the fifth day of the "league year." Because of the delays necessary to negotiate an extension to the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, the league year began Saturday instead of March 3 as originally scheduled, and that makes Wednesday the due date for the bonus.
If Owens is still on the roster on Wednesday morning, the Eagles are on the hook for the roster bonus. To avoid paying the $5 million, they must release him by the end of league business hours Tuesday -- or no later than 4 p.m. ET Tuesday -- so that he is on the official transaction document disseminated to all 32 franchises.
Seahawks must match Hutchinson’s offer from Minnesota …according to Seattle columnist. If you haven’t been following this story, it is actually very interesting stuff…
Jen Engle assures us it is all good with CoCo in Arizona …
I assume by now everyone saw the Sopranos who was going to. Therefore, discussion time can commence. Most of the talk is about whether they have killed Tony. It appears that I am in the minority here, too. I think he is dead. But, I think that this columnist has the right theory of what happens next.
MSNBC has many theories ….
Perhaps — and this is all mere speculation — the remaining episodes will play out post-Tony, as “Six Feet Under” did after one of its lead characters died. Or maybe viewers just watched the very end of “The Sopranos,” and remaining episodes will flash back to the year’s worth of stories that lead up to his death at the hands of Uncle Junior.
More likely, Tony will emerge from this a changed man, and those changes will affect the way his life plays out over the rest of the series’ life. Or perhaps he’ll survive and things will remain the same, just as they always have.
I bolded the theory that I believe…discuss amongst yourselves…
UFC, brutal? Check out the post fight pictures of Rich Franklin and his opponent here ….
Why do European hockey players automatically have to prove that they are not pansies when it comes to physical hockey? Because, they grew up playing soccer, and they are pansies for the most part. But, I will provide evidence of how the Euro fights …How do you like the stick swinging?
Finally, here is Zombie, Zombie, Zombie …
i was one of those who was disgusted back in the summer/fall with this guy, and really still am at what happened. but under the right circumstances, t.o. will work here. if keyshawn is going to be unhappy with his contract this year, and i don't think they need to pay him anymore, then what difference will it make if it's him or t.o. in the lineup. i'm a lifelong cowboys fan, and it pissed me off when owens pranced around the texas stadium turf, but come on, it's not the end of the world. we're in desparate need of a #1 receiver, and if you have the opportunity to get one, i say go for it. he wants money more than anything to be happy, and to get it, he will have to be nothing short of being on his best behavior...having parcells as a coach is also a big difference. i say get him and let's go win us a superbowl...
ReplyDeleteIf TO gets signed by Dallas, I will no longer root for the Cowboys for as long as Jerry Jones owns the team. Period. TO is an infected sore of a human being and the Cowboys can win without him. Go sign another receiver, ANY other receiver than TO. This will blow up in the Cowboys face so badly, it's just a question of when. I'll even sign this thing so somebody can hold me accountable to what I said.
ReplyDeleteSigned,
Jonathan Brashear
I'm not against signing T.O. at all if/when he is released. Parcells has proven that he is willing to deal with problem players if it means being closer to a superbowl. Parcells can say all he wants that he's too old to deal with problem players, but when it comes to a guy with t.o.'s skills, he will deal with it.
ReplyDeleteI also think t.o. wont be a problem because Parcells is such a strong coach and he has some skins on the wall.
and on the sorprano's... i could see them killing tony and doing the whole flashback/ghost thing, but i think it would be show suicide. i think tony pulls out of it, and like the article says change his life, etc.
btw...im so pumped for the last few episodes of the shield, but man why do they have to split the season in half like that!
I have 2 words for if the Cowboys sign TO......"GO TEXANS".
ReplyDeleteon the Sopranos.....
ReplyDeleteMIGHT BE A SPOILER
LAST CHANCE TO SCROLL AWAY
the next episode is going to feature on of the famous Tony "dream sequences". but i heard this one is goin to be pretty good. (i actually liked the Test Dream episode) if you've heard about Ben Kingsley being on the show this year and the crew filming in L.A., well this is that episode. Tony has a dream that he's a regular 9 to 5 guy and he and his family are going to Hollywood to sight-see. now, will this lead to maybe Tony wanting out? who knows.................
Arthur
The next 10 or so episodes will play out as life after Tony and then the last episode of this half season will feature Carmela waking up, going into the bathroom and opening the shower door to discover a huge, fat, hairy James Gandolfini backside scrubbing up and assuring her it was all just a dream.
ReplyDeleteWe are all forgetting that the Cowboys are not the cursed franchise that Philly is. And weren't these same arguments being made against getting Haley? That didn't work out so well did it?
ReplyDeleteAll of this speculation about the entire Sopranos season being a "flashback" to the moment Junior shoots Tony conveniently ignore the fact that the 50 minutes leading up to the shooting were in and of themselves a "flashback." Ask yourselves: what more could POSSIBLY be filled in with an extended flashback that we either a) don't already know or b) wasn't filled in by the episode last night? So a year has passed. I guarantee you that all that happened during that year was glossed over neatly and, most importantly, QUICKLY by the crack Sopranos writing staff. Knockaround guys are turning rat in droves. Big Gay Vito lost some big gay weight. And somehow Janice and Bacala conceived a child. Do you really want to see WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW played out? Wow. That sounds like some explosive TV right there.
ReplyDeleteHere's what will happen: the show will throw everybody a curveball and keep even those of us convinced we're on top of it wearing out their TiVO for the next year. Sit back and enjoy it.
And I'm with Bob: why not T.O.? But for purely cynical reasons--the media mother lode. Parcells vs. TO. Parcells vs. Jones. The Ticket vs...well, no one, now that they've fallen in with the Valley
Ranch company line. Hell, maybe they'll actually make the playoffs again.
ok so who doesnt this guy think is overrated?
ReplyDeleteand whats with this teams under represented, get someone in, this ones over dont put more in.
it should be about the player...not the team they played for!
cowboys release keyshawn
ReplyDeleteAn open letter to TO:
ReplyDeleteDear TO,
Please eat a bag of dick and die.
Sincerely,
A soon to be Texans fan.
It's not about being "good guys" it's about being "team players". Micheal Irvin is probably one of the biggest "bad guys" to play here in a LONG time, but he was a good team player.
ReplyDeleteTO has been a cancer for 2 different franchises. There is a phrase we have in Texas, Fool me once...shame on you. Fool me, you can't get fooled again.
Signing TO doesn't mean the difference between winning and losing. It does mean the difference between having a locker room cancer or not.
I'm split on the TO thing, but to stop being a fan of your team because he signs here is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I hate stupid crap like that. Are you a fan of the Dallas Cowboys or a fan of just a random team that happens to be based in Dallas? I subscribe to the laundry theory that Seinfeld talks about. I'm a Cowboys fan and if they sign TO, I may not like it. But to say that I'll stop being a fan, that's asinine.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'm ok with those fans leaving. There'll be a little more room on the fan bandwagon. Get rid of the chaff, keep the wheat...
The fact that both teams got worse and were happy to let him go speaks to just how big of a cancer he is. If the Cowboys do sign him I'd be more than happy to see him fail or get injured...preferably both.
ReplyDeleteAs a lifelong Cowboys fan who has been wrestling with this TO situation, I say this to the "I'm-gonna-go root-for-Houston" fans: TO might be a jerk-off. But, I guarantee his night-before-game preparation doesn't include snorting lines of coke from strippers ass-cracks in hotels like another certain former Cowboys WR. TO comes to play ball. That's it. He is unapologetic about heing an a-hole. Call him a cancer. Call him a douche. All are probably true. But I'll bet you he doesn't screw around when it comes to preparation. He won't do anything that might jeopardize his play on the field. Yeah, he might be the lead on SportsCenter for being a cock, but he'll never make it for being taken down in a drug bust (to no one's suprise), being the principle in a murder-for-hire plan involving a Dallas Cop (again, not really that suprising), or have his name casually thrown about in a rape case (ditto). TO won't be the first horse's ass to wear the star on his helmet. Fans getting all "high and mighty" about this man of questionable moral character joining this "team of pillars of the community" need to take a hard look in the mirror and see the truth about who they've been cheering for every Sunday. Valley Ranch isn't seminary. There have been a lot bigger jack-offs to hit the turf at Texas Stadium to thousands of cheers in the past, and, odds are, there will certainly be a lot more in the future.
