Game 6 Thread

If you have a pulse, you may enjoy this before the game tonight. It is from today's show (Dan took a dump on it) and it is from the movie "On Any Given Sunday". The audio is at the link, the words are below:

I don’t know what to say, really. Three minutes till the biggest battle of our professional lives all comes down to today. Now either we heal as a team or we’re gonna crumble, inch by inch, play by play, 'til we’re finished.

We’re in hell right now, gentlemen, believe me. And, we can stay here -- get the shit kicked out of us -- or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell one inch at a time.

Now, I can’t do it for you. I’m too old. I look around. I see these young faces, and I think -- I mean -- I made every wrong choice a middle-aged man can make. I, uh, I pissed away all my money, believe it or not. I chased off anyone who’s ever loved me. And lately, I can’t even stand the face I see in the mirror.

You know, when you get old in life things get taken from you. I mean that's...part of life. But, you only learn that when you start losing stuff. You find out life’s this game of inches. So is football. Because in either game, life or football, the margin for error is so small -- I mean one-half a step too late, or too early, and you don’t quite make it. One-half second too slow, too fast, you don’t quite catch it.

The inches we need are everywhere around us.

They’re in every break of the game, every minute, every second.

On this team, we fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch, because we know when we add up all those inches that’s gonna make the fuckin' difference between winning and losing! Between livin' and dyin'!

I’ll tell you this: In any fight, it’s the guy who’s willing to die who’s gonna win that inch. And I know if I’m gonna have any life anymore, it’s because I’m still willin' to fight and die for that inch. Because that’s what livin' is! The six inches in front of your face!!

Now I can’t make you do it. You got to look at the guy next to you. Look into his eyes! Now I think you’re gonna see a guy who will go that inch with you. You're gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team because he knows, when it comes down to it, you’re gonna do the same for him!

That’s a team, gentleman!

And, either we heal, now, as a team, or we will die as individuals.

That’s football guys.

That's all it is.

Now, what are you gonna do?

Make them go Fish. Beat SA.

I'm so torn right now...the DallasFanp1dean is sad...but the basketballFanp1dean is elated at another game in this series!

Someone call Espn Classic and ask them to set up a simulcast of Monday's game. Why not? This whole freakin' series has been so great...

    later p1dean

14-5 foul differential in the second half....they certainly did swallow their whistles.

this has nothing to do with fouls! Good teams get screwed by bad calls everynow and then...great teams win regardless of bad calls. Its time for the Mavericks to go from good to great. Its like TO on the star...you don't want him on the star? Don't let him make a touchdown.

Hmm, and I thought only Spurs fans bitched about the refs.

Anyway...Now you know how the Spurs felt after games 2, 3 and 4. It's about damn time some of the calls started going the other way...

"Hmm, and I thought only Spurs fans bitched about the refs."

Yeah, apparently not. There is enough whine flowing out of Dallas tonight to drown half the state of Texas.

I doubt the Spurs had to deal with quite the disparity in foul calls in either Game 3 or Game 4.

Nonetheless, Dallas had it's chance to seize control of this game after Duncan went out with his third foul with about 6 minutes left in the second quarter.

They did not. And the rest is history.

  15. What the F*, Spurs fans. A few comments were made about call disparity and it immediatly becomes whining? Whining is Tim Duncan plain and simple, he is the human embodiment of it. Whining is the S* that was one your sports talk radio all week. Whining is being a fan of a sports team and getting mad when another fan is enjoying his teams victory. Come on spurs fans its not that bad to lose in a game 7 at home, apparently you can just go to the river walk and have some alchoholic beverages and urinate in the river afterward according to Pop. Enjoy your wins spurs fans they were great ones, classic games played by 2 good teams. As a non-partisan basketball fan these have been the best weeks of my sports life. Thank you San Antonio and Dallas for this series. Oh and F Manu, I really just hate that guy.

In actuality all fans bitch about the officiating. Welcome to the world of sports jackass.

But remember CS, when it's your team 'you're getting screwed' when it's the other team 'they are whining.'

    ;0

Like the DMN story said, the bottom line is nobody stepped up to match Dirk's effort. Stackhouse, Harris, Daniels, etc - all laid eggs. With Duncan and Parker sitting for much of the game and home court, somebody else needed to step up and put the 'boot on the throat.'

  18. Just pointing out what whining is to me, jackass? Hmmm, I am not rooting for any team in this series CommonSense if that was directed at me. In all actuality I was rooting for the Spurs in that game. But jumping to the ohhh now mavs fans are whining when all that was mentioned was the fact about call discrepancy. Do you listen to local San Antonio sports talk? If so then you must know what I mean about whining. If not then I don't recomend it, it might actually make you sick. If that was not directed at me then, forgive me for explaining my POV. Go Cavs!
