Monday = Funday

A big man (OL Leonard Davis) gets a big deal (7-years, $49-million) from the Cowboys.

Get to know Leonard Davis at his very own website.

As I searched for stuff on Leonard Davis, I found a familiar face has joined the Cardinals staff: former Cowboy and Ticket pre-game show host Richie Anderson.

Other free agency news over the weekend:

A sad day for Bob as Ahman Green chooses Houston over Green Bay.

The Pats upgrade their dee with the addition of linebacker Adalius Thomas.

The wackiest story of the weekend: Tampa Bay signs Jeff Garcia, trades with Denver for Jake Plummer, who says he'd rather retire than change teams. In the words of the 'Afternoon Cloud': he sucks.

Ugly loss for the Stars Sunday as they get whipped by Bill Guerin and the Sharks.

Mavericks off until Tuesday when they host New Jersey. Dallas now with a franchise-best 15-game winning streak following Saturday's win over Orlando...here's another interesting Mavs stat, thanks to Elias Sports Bureau:

• The Mavericks have won 50 of their last 55 games after starting the season 0-4. They are only the second team in NBA history to win 50 of 55 games within one season: the 1995-96 Bulls also won 50 of 55 games at one point. (By the way, no team in the history of either Major League Baseball or the NHL has ever won 50-of-55 in one season, either.)

The Desperados cruise in their season opener in New York...

...but the same apparently
can't be said for ABC/ESPN.

Some interesting Desperados notes from Elias:

• The Dallas Desperados opened their season with a 60-7 win over the New York Dragons. That was by far the largest margin of victory in a season opener in the 21-year history of the AFL. The previous high was 40 points by the San Jose SaberCats over the Houston Thunderbears in 2000 (54-14); and the Tampa Bay Storm over the Carolina Cobras in 2003 (60-20).

• The Desperados' victory sort of figured. They beat the Dragons by scores of 46-28 and 82-38 last season. The combined 62-point differential for the season was the largest between any two AFL teams over the last five seasons (2002-06).
