Here are the painful facts from the 2009 season that Roy obviously isn't referencing when he talks about being "The Man".
"I'm going to look at this thing as I'm the man, like I've always been," Williams said. "And that's never going to change."
Pay special attention to the Catch Percentage:

Roy, the Ball don't lie.
Nice work, Bob.
ReplyDeleteI'd just add that it's not only completion percentage that speaks volumes in this case.
Consider that Crayton had 33% fewer chances to catch the ball than Williams and yet only trailed him by one in total catches and firstdowns. What's more, he only trailed Williams by two in total touchdowns.
All else being equal, Roy was not only NOT The Man, he was arguably the FOURTH best receiver on the team (if you factor back in catch% and the nearly equal stats Crayton put up, you could argue that Crayton was MORE productive on the field than Williams).
Forth best reciever is a bit kind. Ogletree has a very small sample size, but its hard to argue that if you tossed him 6 more balls he'd drop all 6. Roy was the 5th best option at receiver. And it isn't as if he's providing something awesome like drawing double coverage. Its one thing for Jerry not to listen to the coaches and force the guy int he lineup due to your ego. But if the qb never looks his way in a playoff game (Vikings) the only message stronger than that is breaking his legs on the sidelines to keep him off the field.
ReplyDeleteNo Bob, the ball don't lie. But you can't control what the ball do.
ReplyDeleteHow that guy can say with a straight face that he's the number one receiver is delusional.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how it feels to have only the fullback offer up a worse catch %. Are people pinning that on Romo?
