Proud of Our Boys!

  1. I'd love to hear all those haters say how boring soccer is today.

    Landon Donovan - American hero.

  2. Howard's ability to make great saves and then accurately throw the ball downfield absolutely amazes me. Kick started that scoring drive. And the nice finish by Donovan helped us avoid the double stomach punches trying to be issued by the refs. The huge calls missed are starting to get really annoying.

  4. Right, because (as Americans) we are perfectly justified in maintaining that if there's a sport that EVERYONE else in the world loves, and we hate it, the rest of the world must be wrong.

  5. Doc, I don't pretend to speak for us (as in USA), only myself.

After an hour and a half of running up and down the field, there MIGHT be 2-3 legitimate chances for a score, and after all that has a good chance of ending in a tie.

    BORING

  6. No, nothing boring about the US Algeria game. However, I can EASILY see how so many American sports fans would laugh off this great game after seeing the pathetic level of officiating being displayed in the 2010 World Cup.

At the 90th minute, with the USA about to be eliminated due to 2 ridiculously disallowed goals in the last 2 games, I felt physically sick to my gut.

Thanks to Landon Donovan for saving me from having to get my living room floor professionally cleaned.

  7. This is what I don't like about outspoken soccer fans. How about instead of dropping the stupid Americans bit, maybe you could try pointing out the enjoyable bits of soccer. Maybe note that goals, while infrequent, are almost always spectacular. Perhaps it's the thrill of knowing that the game can turn on a dime. Realize that the rules call for great athleticism, brutal hits and a timely conclusion to most matches. Maybe even acknowledge that when one team gets ahead and decides to play keep away and flop around all over the field that this is not the high point of the sport. When you write off critics of your sport as one of the unwashed infidels, when you come of as an elitist, you lose that fan forever. And what is more important, growing the sport or growing your ego?
