Nobody is willing to suggest that penalties are no longer a problem, but the last two weeks have shown great improvement on that front. 5 penalties against the Giants and 3 penalties against Jacksonville suggest that initiative is bearing some fruit. Of course, when you are throttled on the field in both games at home, this is not some sort of consolation - "We were rolled badly tonight, men, but I am proud of you: 3 Penalties!" - but it doesn't hurt.
For the season, the Cowboys are no longer challenging for the league lead, but they are still in their comfortable home in the Top 10 in the league. With some teams still to take their bye weeks, the Cowboys rank 6th in penalties and 8th in total yards.
Since this blog entry is exclusively addressing penalties, we can say in one small department, the Cowboys did not have a complete and utter disaster. There, feel better?
