Mavericks vs Trail Blazers 4/23/11 Game 4 ADS

I had the worst nightmare during my nap today, Dallas was up by 24 points then Portland came back and won. What? That really happened? Oh no, here we go again.

For how awful the Blazers were in the third there really is no excuse that can explain why the Mavs lost that game. Its hard to pin this on one player, this was a team collapse. For the entire fourth the Mavs didn't force one turnover and let the Trail Blazers shoot 75% translating into being outscored by 20 (and this is coming form the team that missed their first 15 shots in the third). If there is a silver lining here its that Dallas is 2-1 when opening a series 2-0 (wonder what that one they let get away is, oh...). Both players and fans have to be worried after watching game three and four given the recent history on this team.

All is not lost thanks to ADS it apears the Mavericks finally figured out a way to force Portland to the outside; unfortunately Dallas didn't find a way to get to the inside. You can see in the 2nd when Dallas started to pull away they had the lowest ADS of the game, but things took a turn to the worse in the 4th. This could be the result of one of two possibilities, the Mavs were getting the short end of the stick on foul calls all game long so they were iffy on driving the basket. The other possibility could have been that they saw Portland creeping up on them and they were trying to force their shots. In the end, yes its disappointing, but we all knew going in, the reputation on the Mavs, and their history in the playoffs are never too far away to give reason to doubt. This now turns into a best of 3 series and given that the home team has had the advantage all season/series long, the Mavs still have the upper-hand.

- Portland was 12-12 on FT in the 1st half. Mavs were 0-0.
- Roy had the game-high with 24 points, coming off the bench.

- Blazers had 12 fast-break. Something the Mavs have had an issue with all series.

- Mark Cuban said he was hit in the face with an unknown object in the fourth quarter...
