If the Stars keep doing things like winning in Toronto and now Ottawa …people are going to think Dallas is the best team in hockey…
This is the Marty Turco the Stars need in big games.
The Turco who wows with spectacular glove saves on odd-man rushes. The Turco who seems to be in the right position so that a puck he never sees still hits him in the chest. The Turco who plays the puck, eliminates the opponent's forecheck and generates scoring chances for the Stars. And the Turco who shuts down top NHL teams on the road.
It was that Turco who showed up in the Stars' 2-0 win Thursday at Corel Centre.
He managed to do what no other goalie has done this season: shut out the Senators, who average a league-high 4.4 goals, in their building. Turco made 24 saves, using his glove, stick, pads and posts to do it.
The fact that the Stars are playing like they are without production from Bill Guerin and Jason Arnott over the last number of games speaks volumes about this team’s potential. I suspect if they were losing, people would be calling for the heads of 13 and 44, but for now, they fly under the radar (save for Ralph and Razor starting each game with the obligatory: “For the Stars to win tonight, they will need goals from these two guys” stand up routine)…
One other question while I am in the Stars-talk mood; since when is it ok to take continuous runs at Mike Modano? Anyone interested in showing these clowns who try to decapitate him what the price is for doing so? Or in this new NHL, is it now ok for people to run at your star? The wuss-ification of the NHL continues…I could have sworn we brought in Nathon Perrott for just this reason…
Good buddy, and former ticket promotions dude, Matt Mosely, Takes on Chiefs fans about Jared Allen “not being that good” …Sorry, Matt. Give me the Chiefs fans on that one. If you have ever seen him play (I am guessing by your comments that you had not) you would realize that his performance on Sunday is just another day at the office from the most underrated player in football. Jared Allen was one of the only bright spots on the 2004 Chiefs defense with his constant pressure on the QB, and he has picked up where he left off.

Redskins celebrate snow on Thursday …and ignore the forecast for Sunday…
It was not easy to keep warm between drills, and the rearranged schedule prevented running back Clinton Portis from having enough time to don a costume as he does during his news conference most Thursdays.
"I hope the weather stays the same since we're practicing in it," Portis said.
Portis said he had gone to extra preparation for his costume, given the importance of Dallas week. "It was probably the best one of all time," he said. "I had a great idea."
The players are eager to play a meaningful late-season game -- Portis said he has seen tickets going for $1,300 on eBay -- and want as much of a home-field advantage as possible.
"Hopefully, the weather will cooperate," said Gregg Williams, assistant head coach-defense.
Temperatures Sunday were forecast in the low 40s.
One of the biggest wastes in recent NFL History Darrell Russell, died yesterday …at the age of 29…
He was suspended three times for violating the league's substance abuse policy and his career never really recovered. After being released by the Raiders at the end of his second suspension, he played briefly for the Washington Redskins in 2003 and was released in training camp by Tampa Bay the following year.
To truly understand the waste of talent this guy was, check out a 2003 ESPN the Mag story on Russell …
I forgot this story yesterday: The tv show that won’t die, Arrested Development may rise from the dead again…
'Arrested Development" could have a second life on ABC or Showtime.
"Conversations are ongoing with both networks," an industry insider told The Post yesterday.
Both networks are contemplating picking up the quirky, Emmy-winning Fox series, according to trade reports.
ABC "is having preliminary conversations" about acquiring the show, a network spokesman told The Post yesterday.
"Arrested Development" hasn't been officially canceled by Fox, but isn't expected to return after its third-season order was cut from 22 episodes to 13 episodes.
Now, everyone has a blog Rangers PR Machine Gregg Elkin Joins the ranks …
I think this is a shame, but it is perhaps nice for a new rivalry: The San Jose Earthquakes are moving to Houston …As someone who has been to San Jose a couple times for Burn/FC Dallas visits, I found the place to have great atmosphere and the perfect market for MLS (where it won’t be lost in the clutter of the Big 4 franchises – only the Sharks offered competition, and that was not summertime), but from a futbol standpoint, Houston makes tons more sense (read: Hispanic population)…
local product, Deron Williams (or Torrey Ellis) gets unwanted publicity …
Champions League Draw is out …And Chelsea must face Barca in the Round of 16…delicious!
Liverpool pounds Costa Rican champ …and now must beat Sao Paulo of Brazil to be “Champions of the World”…if you believe that this tournament is legit…
The Throw-Down did fine yesterday, but I have serious doubts they can keep it up. They need alot of call-ins from Bob and Dan.
ReplyDeleteAt least Bob is still blogging even though he's on vacation.I promise to never talk bad about you again sweet clean Bob.
Bob, I would gladly be the Center to your Quarterback!!!!
Darrell Russell...what a waste. I'd like to think that I wouldn't blow it like him, but you never know.
Solid blog today Bob.

ReplyDeleteT'was the night of the Rose Bowl...and all through the land,
ReplyDeleteAll the Longhorns were stirring, even the band.
The tickets were purchased for the game, room, and air...
In hopes that "Saint Vincent" would soon be there!!
The fans were tailgating from their truck beds,
While a vision of a championship danced in their heads.
And Bevo in his bridle, and me in my cap...
Had just popped a cold one before the first snap.
When out on the turf there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter!!
My eyes fixed on the tunnel, and the thundering herd;
The roar of the fight song; I sang every word!!
They ran to the end zone, and knelt to their Maker...
Giving thanks for TEXAS, and the victory later!!
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear.
Coach Mack in his glory, "THE HEAD COACH OF THE YEAR"!
And our hero from Houston that I haven't seen since;
I knew in a moment it must be "Saint Vince"!
More rapid than eagles his posse they came...
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name!
Now, THOMAS! Now, TAYLOR! Now, PITTMAN and SWEED!
On CHARLES, On ALLEN, ROSS, HUFF and McGEE!
To the top of the world for a championship crown!
Now dash away, dash away, to a TEXAS touchdown!
They fought with fury! They fought with might!
They fought like champions on this championship night!
Oh! The bombs they flew, and the holes blew open...
The Longhorns ran the ball just as we were hope'in.
The defense attacked, and oh, they played hard!
Stopping the Trojans, in their own back yard!
Mack's eyes how they twinkled, his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, the "crystal ball" he did carry!
He embraced his coaches, he embraced his team!
And "The Eyes of TEXAS" we all did sing
A season that will live forever in lore;
COME EARLY, WEAR ORANGE, STAY LATE, ONCE MORE!!!!!!!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS, TEXAS!! HOOK 'EM HORNS!
Greatness....i'm stealing that.
