Episode: 2942
Location: Oklahoma City
The Mix: “Are we going to get Old No. 7 Mike tonight?” - Donovan
The Open: “Not only did you sign my football but you also lanced my mother in the neck with a trident.” Dan says that when he gets divorced, congratulate him. There’s no need to tip-toe around it. But, he’s too lazy to ever get divorced. Some Oklahoma City fun facts. It is the 3rd largest city in terms of square miles. It’s the 30th largest in terms of population. The word “Oklahoma” means Red People. Some early audio. In the pre-game on ESPN Saturday night, it appears that Doris Burke says “F***hole”.
12:40 – Mavs Talk: The Mavs pulled out a win in OKC on Saturday, even though Dirk and Jason Terry both have off shooting nights. There are many reasons why the Mavs shouldn’t have won on Saturday on the road and with their stars underperforming, but the defense and role players stepped up. Shawn Marion and Jason Kidd played on another level. Jason Kidd, arguably the highest basketball IQ out there, proved once again that he seems to be in the Matrix. He moves slowly but no one can seem to keep up with him. Jason Kidd has 26 assists with only 6 turnovers through 3 games while Westbrook has 11 assists and 15 turnovers.
1:00 – Mavs Talk: Since the Mavs lost game 4 against the Trail Blazers, the Mavs are 8-1. It seems like that loss triggered something in them that they never want to revisit. The Mavs won this game in the first quarter, which is rare in the playoffs. There were no lead changes and even though the Thunder cut the lead to 5 in the 4th quarter, the Mavs used their experience and defense to hold off the onslaught. Shawn Marion stepped up big time in game 3 and is one of the more underrated players for Dallas.
1:20 – Mavs Talk: Once again, Kevin Durant was not able to get the ball in the 4th quarter. Russell Westbrook stayed true to form and took the mindset of a scorer first and a facilitator second. It has to be frustrating for OKC fans to see that. Bob noticed that Thunder coach Scott Brooks has to spend a majority of his timeouts boosting morale rather than talking strategy.
1:40 – Mavs Talk: The announcers talked on Saturday about Haywood saying that having Peja guard Durant was a coaching error. It stopped at that, nothing really came out of it. Bob wants to talk about Dirk and how he has built a career out of self-preservation. Dirk has developed low-contact moves that result in jump shots and that is the reason that he has been good for so long. On the other hand, Derrick Rose is a player who will have to change the way he plays when his body can’t keep up with his current pace. Nick Collison seems to be an annoyance to Dirk.
2:00 – Mavs Talk: Some audio from Saturday. Some (assuming here) large black woman kept yelling “GET ‘EM RUUUUUSSSELLLL!” and you could hear it on the broadcast. The announcers also said that Peja once hit 96 of 100 3 pointers in practice. That’s extremely hard to process. There’s a rumor that Russell Westbrook dips tobacco during the games.
2:20 – Donovan’s Is It True: Donovan discusses Oklahoma stereotypes and he does this at Twin Peaks with Emily.
Do you have a pet named after Barry Switzer or Bob Stoops? She said no but knows people that do.
In the last week have you eaten at Braums or Dennys? She has.
Have you ever been Okie Noodling? She says she has.
Have you ever driven or owned a Ford F-150? She has not.
Has any home you’ve ever lived in been damaged by a tornado? She says yes.
Do you love Sooner football? She says yes.
Have you ever played in a junkyard? She says no.
Is either Toby Keith, Reba or Garth Brooks your favorite artist? She loves Reba.
Have you been to the casino in the past month? No she hasn’t.
Have you ever lived in a trailer park? Yes she has.
Is there a Bible in the backseat of your car? No, not in the backseat of the car.
Dan wins 3-2.
2:45 – More Audio: In reference to the audio earlier of the woman yelling “GET EM RUUUUUSSSEELLL”, there is some archived audio from 2006 of fans yelling off camera. Someone is going nuts, yelling continuously. Chances are she’s not hot. She’s labeled in the archives as “Fat Spurs Lady”.
3:00 – WTDS: On this day in 1934 Bonnie and Clyde were killed. Happy Birthday to Rich Karlis, Brad Penny, Rob Thorn, Buck Showalter, Joan Collins, Ken Jennings, Jewel, Black Meat Please 2 and Drew Carey. Spares include John Rhadigan, Dave Babych, Reggie Cleveland, James Hasty, Gary Roberts and Charles Rogers.
Listen to BaD Radio everyday from 12 – 3pm on Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket. I do, and I has opulence.
