Blog Closed Wednesday

Tuesday Night - 9:00 pm

It is possible that you are arriving at Bob's blog this morning (Wednesday) with your mind ready to jump on the juicy sports stories of the day. Well, you may have to check elsewhere, because this morning, I am at the doctor having my back looked at with the MRI machine.

Seems that something has gone wrong with my spine while I have been marathon training (which proves that the best way to stay healthy is NOT to exercise) and that I may have a prolonged stay on the disabled list ahead of me. I was up to about 30-35 miles a week, and the pain was becoming absurd last week. So, in abusing my connections in life, I talked with Stars trainer Dave Surprenant about my symptoms (ache in my leg although I cannot find a specific area of pain, numb foot, shooting pain in various vague areas of my right leg) and he put me through a few tests on the phone before telling me he was reasonably sure I had some level of a disc herniation in my lumbar or somesuch.

So, I am off to a specialist first thing in the morning to see what action I must take to get my right leg functioning again. This surely ends my attempt at another marathon in the winter, but I remain hopeful that I can do it again in 2007. If things go well this morning, then I will cap off my Wednesday with a flight to Seattle to gear up for the weekend activities of the Cowboys in the Great Northwest.

That is a long way of telling you a short message: No blog today.

good luck with the back

few humans are made to run marathons so i strongly advise another activity--sitting around is good

Sorry to hear it Bob. I'm in the middle of training my way up to a half-mary as part of getting ready for triathlon season, and I've been really cautious because of all the injuries I've seen from others. My girlfriend's been dealing with leg pain from bad form for the better part of a year and she's just now getting over it(with the help of a running specialist) and able to run a 5k. Take your time getting back, rushing it could cause even worse pain than what you're dealing with now. Good luck man.

Take care of yourself Bob. You don't want to rush things and make it worse. The last thing you want is somebody cutting on your back.

I hope all goes well.

Hope you feel better Bob. There's a reason Pheidippides died after running the marathon.

You know, you're lucky that after telling Stars trainer Dave Surprenant your symptoms, he didn't just disclose that he thought it was a "lower body injury".

I guess I'll toss up a prayer for SportSturm today instead of generic sports like normal. Hope you get to geeling better. . . maybe you and Norm can display your spines together in the Ticket trophy case?

It's hard to go from running marathons to mall walking, but eventually it's necessary for all of us to make the switch. See you at Vista Ridge.

Sports?

Bob, you are getting old, plain and simple. Take it from someone who knows - 2 dislocated kneecaps, a torn ACL, a separated shoulder, 2 front teeth knocked out - and I'm 'only' 30.

Guess the old-age injuries hit the 30-somethings at slightly different times... Best of luck with the back - that does sound painful.

It's nice to see that after weeks of denials, Nick Saban is nothing more than a money grubbing liar after all...
