Blog Closed Wednesday

Tuesday Night - 9:00 pm

It is possible that you are arriving at Bob's blog this morning (Wednesday) with your mind ready to jump on the juicy sports stories of the day. Well, you may have to check elsewhere, because this morning, I am at the doctor having my back looked at with the MRI machine.

Seems that something has gone wrong with my spine while I have been marathon training (which proves that the best way to stay healthy is NOT to exercise) and that I may have a prolonged stay on the disabled list ahead of me. I was up to about 30-35 miles a week, and the pain was becoming absurd last week. So, in abusing my connections in life, I talked with Stars trainer Dave Surprenant about my symptoms (ache in my leg although I cannot find a specific area of pain, numb foot, shooting pain in various vague areas of my right leg) and he put me through a few tests on the phone before telling me he was reasonably sure I had some level of a disc herniation in my lumbar or somesuch.

So, I am off to a specialist first thing in the morning to see what action I must take to get my right leg functioning again. This surely ends my attempt at another marathon in the winter, but I remain hopeful that I can do it again in 2007. If things go well this morning, then I will cap off my Wednesday with a flight to Seattle to gear up for the weekend activities of the Cowboys in the Great Northwest.

That is a long way of telling you a short message: No blog today.

Hope you feels better soon Bob. A herniated somesuch doesn't sound like much fun. Interesting that the first person you sought help from wasn't your Church, but rather the Hockey.

good luck with the back

few humans are made to run marathons so i strongly advise another activity--sitting around is good

Sorry to hear it Bob. I'm in the middle of training my way up to a half-mary as part of getting ready for triathlon season, and I've been really cautious because of all the injuries I've seen from others. My girlfriend's been dealing with leg pain from bad form for the better part of a year and she's just now getting over it(with the help of a running specialist) and able to run a 5k. Take your time getting back, rushing it could cause even worse pain than what you're dealing with now. Good luck man.

I guess mom was right, no running. I have some back pain myself and I know it's painful. I hope you get things feeling better soon. Count yourself lucky you have connections. And besides why do you want to run 27 miles anyway? The fridge is just a few feet away.

you know, Bob, no one ever got a herniated disc by smoking weed and playing Madden.

I have always be so jealous of runners since I stop running because of my leg injuries when I was in the Air Force. (My exercises are restricted to bicycling, walking and swimming.) But recently, I have read articles on how running causes a great deal of stress on the body versus walking.

Be strong, SportsSturm.

My sister broke a rib just coughing once. I wonder if her 38DDs had anything to do with it.

Good luck with the back, it's a crap shoot.

Take care of yourself Bob. You don't want to rush things and make it worse. The last thing you want is somebody cutting on your back.

I hope all goes well.

Best wishes Bob.

We might need you to play through the pain here Bob. First Boys playoff game in a while, we are gonna need some Hot Sports Links.
I kid, I kid....good luck to ya.

We all need to pick up the slack while Bob is sidelined. Here is a new German anti-drug commerical featuring Dirk, posted on Deadspin.

Hope you feel better Bob. There's a reason Pheidippides died after running the marathon.

You know, you're lucky that after telling Stars trainer Dave Surprenant your symptoms, he didn't just disclose that he thought it was a "lower body injury".

This guy cant get modano back out on the ice Bob, be careful.

We're all pulling for your gimpy leg.

I guess I'll toss up a prayer for SportSturm today instead of generic sports like normal. Hope you get to geeling better. . . maybe you and Norm can display your spines together in the Ticket trophy case?

It's hard to go from running marathons to mall walking, but eventually it's necessary for all of us to make the switch. See you at Vista Ridge.

Sports?

Bob, you are getting old, plain and simple. Take it from someone who knows - 2 dislocated kneecaps, a torn ACL, a separated shoulder, 2 front teeth knocked out - and I'm 'only' 30.

Guess the old-age injuries hit the 30-somethings at slightly different times... Best of luck with the back - that does sound painful.

It's nice to see that after weeks of denials, Nick Saban is nothing more than a money grubbing liar after all...

i always thought bob would grow up to be just like norm. a gorilla-spine will get him that much closer.

Hope you get to feeling better soon, Bob.

Seriously Bob, there are studies that are pointing towards the fact that long distance running does more bad than good. I was reading about it in a medical journal at my mother in law's pulminary clinic. Anyway, hope everything turns out ok.

In other news, Vince Young is the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

in other news, rush limbaugh was right.

Rush was right about what?

Brad said...

lol leave Rush alone. that's not he meant....

eric,

the rush v. donovan on ESPN thing? c'mon...you have to know what i'm talking about, especially being a generic UT liberal.

I remember something about Rush vs. McNabb that got him fired but I don't remember exactly what he said.

And I'm as politically conservative as anyone you'll find, ag.

Hmmm...they say that 'Dimebag' is Dallas' greatest guitarist?

No offense to Dimebag, but the greatest guitarist from Dallas would be Stevie Ray Vaughan.
