Modano is Back to Being Modano

My new Hockeybuzz essay on Modano being back ...

Stars 4, Edmonton 0 …And Modano is playing very well…

Modano has continued to lead that team. He won a faceoff to set up Jussi Jokinen's power play goal in the first period, fed Junior Lessard for a tip-in goal that made it 2-0 and hammered in a Lehtinen feed to make the score 3-0. It was Modano's seventh goal of the season. It took him 34 games to score seven goals in 2003-04. So is this potentially the best start to a season in Modano's storied career or does it just look that way compared to his worst season?

"I think it's on track to what I've come to expect from myself," Modano said. "So I'm right on track to where I should be. Compared to [last] year, it's not that hard to improve on."

Colts 41, Patriots 20 …It might be pretty tough to keep the Colts out of Detroit…

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had never lost to the Colts; Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had never won at New England. But those statistics were compiled by different Patriots teams, ones that were built on defense, and by different Colts teams, ones that barely played defense while relying on a high-scoring offense.
Goodbye to all that. The Colts finally beat the Patriots, 40-21, and with Indianapolis (8-0) the only undefeated team in the N.F.L., the playoff positioning has begun.

The 40 points were the most the Colts have ever scored against the Patriots. The victory gave them not only their best start in franchise history and a measure of relief, but also a bit of certainty that unless they collapse, they probably will not have to return to Gillette Stadium for a playoff game.

Peter King’s MMQB

TMS not a sell-out; but 195,000 isn’t too bad

I am just discovering UFC in the last few months, and I realize that if you are into it I am beating you down because I am discovering obvious things about UFC. I also realize if you do not like UFC, you don’t care what I have discovered. And yet, I don’t care.

I watched UFC Unleashed last week on Spike, and they are trying to get us all excited for the PPV UFC 56. The feature fight is a title defense by Matt Hughes . I did not know who Matt Hughes was until I saw his two fights against Frank Trigg. Now, I recognize Hughes as the baddest man on the planet. WOW.

Mavs sent a message to the Spurs …They hope…

"I think we sent a message to San Antonio," Armstrong said Monday. "We're going to be competing with them, and we're going to be right there with them -- or we're going to be ahead of them -- and that's what we wanted to prove.

"I think there's messages that you've got to send to teams early in the season. We want to prove to everybody -- not only to them but to the league -- we're trying to do something special here this year."

Earth to Mavericks...it's the messages you send in April, May and June that count, not the ones in November. Yeah, I'm really sure the Spurs are just trembling in fear right now...

I'm not sure what it says about me that I'm more excited about the UT basketball season than the football season. Maybe I'm just getting used to the football team being a top10 program but the basketball team being a top-tier program is new and exciting. This really could be a special year, and Barnes already has recruits lined up for next year(including Durant and 6'10" 320lb. man-child Dexter Pittman). I hope Barnes stays at UT for a long, long time.

Today, things are much better in Hockey world, the Stars have won 3 straight, and looked good doing it, and Modano's line is AWESOME.

Glad to hear you're getting into the UFC Bob. I've been into it for a little while, and it does not disappoint. You should check out Pride fighting from Japan. It is largely considered as good as, if not better than the UFC due to how much money they pull in, and they probably have some of the best fighters in the world.

Also, glad to see the Stars still know how to destroy the Oilers. Too bad it's not Salo in net, and we don't get to see all those good Hatcher-Smyth battles.

wow, what if UT could have 20 million students going there, imagine the teams they could put out. oh wait, they do.

Yeah it has nothing to do with recruiting....its all the random students that walk on and contribute in all the main sports. So thats why Texas allows so many students, if only anonymous would have pointed this out earlier maybe the other universities might have tried this crazy idea. Thanks anonymous at 11:05 AM, you have just revolutionized college sports across the world.

P1 Mike with heavy sarcasm.

It's so neat how college football doesn't really matter except to big southern dummies and stupid people like Corby.

Anyway...

As if my man-crush on Mike Modano could get any more intense...jeez...it's now bordering on homo-eroticism. Add in Marty Turco, too. I would gladly be the meat in THAT sandwich.

Finally getting their heads out and playing to their level of ability. Thank you Jesus!

Everyone should shoot Bob's wheels off and only comment with porn links...

I wasn't aware that L.A. was full of "big southern dummies," but the Trojans are the hottest thing in town out there.

Now hockey, yeah, that's certainly a sport that appeals to absolutely everyone. I see NHL ratings beating out college football on Saturday all of the time...ok, maybe they are in an igloo in Saskatchewan anyway...

Yeah. Wait till next year and none of those eighth year seniors are there anymore. Attendance drops, what...60%?

I'm not one of those hockey fans that feels the deep seated need to defend and justify the NHL's lack of television ratings, dude. I'll watch it and love it, and I don't care if you do or not.

But you know, I've learned something today: Internet arguing is for dorks.

So you have a nice day now, OK?

"But you know, I've learned something today: Internet arguing is for dorks."

You've got that right, especially the dork that actually starts the internet argument with an ignorant statement. I never thought I was a "southern dummy" since I'm originally from Illinois, but I would rather talk college football all day than watch a hockey game. All I'm saying is you have the right to enjoy whatever sport you like, but just don't be offended that most of us out here probably don't share the same feeling that you do.

Second most retarded statement of the day award goes to this ass-clown.
