Kenny Rogers is done in Texas

The Rangers still aren't sure if John Hart is returning as general manager, but they are certain Kenny Rogers won't be back as the team's ace.

It took less than 24 hours after the season ended for the Rangers to decide not to offer Rogers a contract for 2006. Rangers owner Tom Hicks said the decision was made after a "unanimous" recommendation from his senior management staff based on Rogers' midseason assault of a TV camera and its operator.

"We talked about the incident, how it was handled and what position it put the organization in," Hicks said Monday evening. "We just decided we did not feel comfortable in bringing Kenny back. He's been a part of the organization, off and on for a long time, but there was a strong and unanimous feeling that this was something that could not be repaired."

Lebreton responds to the news

Yankess mad at Buck Showalter; except Brian Cashman

Not every Yankee thought Showalter was out of line. GM Brian Cashman said he had no issue with the move and placed the blame squarely on his own franchise's shoulders, saying, "If we had won one more game, we wouldn't have to be worried about what anybody else did."

My playoff picks: Boston over Chicago; Anaheim over New York; St Louis over San Diego; Houston over Atlanta. Anaheim over Boston; St Louis over Houston. World Series: St Louis Cardinals.

Good to see Gabe in the middle of the fun at Fenway…

Here is my latest posting over at hockeybuzz.com Today's entry ...I size up the roster and stuff for the Stars...

Marcus Vick apologizes for being an idiot

Early in the third quarter, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was caught on camera quickly extending his middle finger toward the stands after he was run out of bounds.

"I apologize for letting my emotions get the best of me Saturday," Vick said in a statement issued Sunday by Virginia Tech. "What I did was wrong and I am sorry. My goal is to be a leader of this team and do things the right way."

Love Marcus Vick, but he is abrasive...

Gil Brandt with a turnover fun fact

Since 1995, teams that are a plus-one in turnover ratio have won 66 percent of their games. Teams with a plus-two have won 83.6 percent. Teams with a plus-three have won 91 percent.

Packers update: Week 4 loss at Carolina

It is tough to say they are just awful, because they have been in every game and could easily make the case they could/should be 3-1. Of course, every team in the league can make this case, so they remain at 0-4. QB play was not a problem this time, but penalties and injuries are. After losing both guards to free agency, they lost their center Flanagan and left tackle Clifton last night to injury. RB Green, WR Murphy, and TE Franks joined WR Walker on the injured crew, too, so it looks like Favre will be out there by himself for a while. These are all nice excuses, but no one cares in the NFL, and the vultures are circling. Jim Bates is doing a decent job with the defense, as they seem to try to attack, but without playmakers, the best scheme in the world will not accomplish the mission. Next up, the San Antonio Saints on Sunday in Lambeau.

Packers are just dumb?

The Packers are stupid. There's no other way to put it.

They have the lowest average Wonderlic score of any of the 32 teams in the National Football League, according to the Journal.

The Wonderlic Personnel Test is a standardized 12-minute 50-question problem-solving exam used by the league to evaluate players. Thousands of other businesses use it to measure applicants.

The players on the Packers' roster have an average Wonderlic score of 19.1, according to the Journal. They were just edged by the Arizona Cardinals, who averaged 19.2 and have started the season just like the Packers, 0-3. The Journal said 19.1 is the typical score for "hospital orderlies."

Ouch.

And now, some e-mail:

Shall we congratulate Pedro Astacio and Chan Ho Park for possibly making it to the postseason?

Isn't it Ironic? Don't you think?

Love it. Keep up the good work, Randy.

Comments: Look Oprah is a big whip, but what is the difference between her and the NFL,NHL,NBA,and MLB all having big press announcements about how the gave 1 million dollars each? They are probaly worth at least 1000 times more and give a tenth. The 49ers are paying 30 million to players that are not even playing for them. They can not give a little more ?

I suppose the biggest difference is that I like sports, and don't like Oprah.

That last email was gay. You are better than that Bobby.

Oprah is a cow, not one of those little steers you see on TV or even a big Brahma bull. I mean a cow like the 50 footer on top of the steak house in Amarillo.

I feel much better now.

For the record, I am a little ashamed that Texas Tech is ranked as high as they are without beating anyone, but this week should change that one way or the other.

Celina sux!

Has anyone actually looked at Pedro Astacio's stats in San Diego? The guy has been awesome in his past 7 starts. He's pitched at least 6 innings each time and has never allowed more than 2 earned runs in any of those starts. It's amazing what can happen when a pitcher leaves The Launch Pad in Arlington. I'm going to issue a "Jub Jub Look Out" warning as I think the Padres will give the Cards all they can handle in that series.

That pic of the poor Alabama receiver is sick...damn, it's too early in the morning to see a guy's ankle snap like that.

I feel bad for Prothro, he was having a heck of a year. It really hurts Alabama's chances of winning the SEC too. If Dvoracek can get a medical redshirt for being an alcoholic with a rage problem, we have to be able to get this kid a 'shirt too.

p.s. I like Cashman's comment. It's nice to know there's at least one stand-up guy in that organization.

O no!! It looks like I was right about the Aggie picture. Jokes on all of you!!

Bob...of course you hide the retraction link in the middle of the post. You're no better than the New York Times.

Bob, the point you made about Oprah is probably the greatest sports point ever. It can't be put any better than that.

Ok now...Being an Aggie is one big retraction, so being kinda wrong about one thing doesn't suddenly justify what being an Aggie means all of a sudden. You dudes are still pretty damn weird. Oh, and good luck against the Buffs on Saturday, you're gonna need it...

coulda used a warning on the ankle snap....that is pretty gruesome to look at....
