Dead and Buried

Never have I been so disgusted with the boys I believed in. Not sure what Avery said at the half, but it surely did not work. Dirk, you will take your medicine for years - and deserve it. There is no question that as beaten as you were last summer, Mavs fans, this will be far worse.

I will offer notes in the morning if I don't jump off a cliff before then.

Wow. DFW sports suck.

Dirk cannot survive this. Somebody has to be held accountable. Seriously. He cannot be back on this team, and he should rescind the MVP when he wins it. Seriously. It's an embarrassment if he accepts it.

Back to back choke jobs. I thought there was no way to top last seasons collapse, but this tops everything. Dirk sucks. Mavs are the biggest chokers in NBA history. Congratulations to the Spurs for their fourth title.

The Mavs, Dirk absolutely quit tonight. The most humiliating moment in Dallas sports history. The Mavs will get and deserve no respect next year along with Dirk.

Don Nelson: the man who created Dirk, then destroyed him.

Dallas was playing catch-up from the opening tip. Take away a couple of boneheaded techs and ill-advised shots, and GS sweeps. Anyone care to argue against blowing this team up? The only problem is that Dirk's trade value dropped by about 75% in the last two weeks. You'd be lucky to get a bag of hammers for him now, let alone a franchise player.

This sux worse than getting to third base with Rosie O'Donnell.

Don Nelson OWNS Mark f8cking Cuban. This team is pschyched out and fukt up. No chance next year. Mavs will not win a championship for another 10 years. Cuban will sell the team.

Wow. What an amazing series.

I have the feeling that the Barnes posterization of Dirk will be the exclamation point on the end of Dirk's career as a superstar. Psychologically, how could he not be defeated?

Step away from the ledge Mavs' fans, you have still have the Rangers. How's that new positive attitude in the clubhouse working out?

Before we recreate the Jonestown Kool-aid party, lets all pledge as P-1's to never buy a Mavs Jersey until they show us that it's something we should be proud to wear.

Hey Dirk..Tim Legler called. He wants his game back. You know...the one where you play like a 6'3" jump shooter who doesn't possess the physical ability to driver the lane and dunk the ball. You have humiliated this city. In the words of Leonard Washington, "Bitch, I'll never forgive you. Now go warm up the car."

You mean to tell me that I sat through all of those regular season games, considering myself a loyal fan, and the reward is a first-round pimp slap? I am out for next year...

Okay...

When the frickin' Ticket QB Bowl is the high point of a DFW sports weekday that featured a Rangers-Yankees doubleheader at the Temple and a must-win Mavs playoff game, we're in trouble.

Add to this the crap that Mel Renfro may be in with that whole Starfish deal...

My sports Corn Flakes will be tasting a lot like bitter piss tomorrow morning.

The Mavericks have won two division titles in their history.

And each time, they've been summarily bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

Coincidence? I think not.

This team is cursed.

And I still hate that bitch, Laura Miller. I will never forgive her.

what an absolute joke. There is a team that doesnt match up well but you have to go back to the last games of the season watching your workhorses sitting on the bench wearing suits. Reminds me of the colts the year before, resting your troops before the playoffs just because you have nothing to play for never works. NEVER WORKS

On a lighter note, did anyone catch this gem of a comment from game 5? Early in the broadcast, just before Pam Oliver was about to hand it back to Dick Stockton and Reggie Miller she said of Avery, "Avery needs more from the big German, Dick". I lol'ed.

Absolutely inexplicable. I thought Dallas would lose Game 6, but never like this.

B-Diddy is on one leg and they still win by 25? Dirk scores only 8? This is the greatest collapse in professional sports history, not just Dallas sports history. This team will absolutely never live this down.

3 thoughts:

1) Dirk is now officially tainted in this town. People are talking about him the way a guy would if he just found out his girlfriend of 5 years was in some sort of crazy fetish porno. It's this mixture of disgust and abject shock that you can't remove with anything other than a title.
2) I'm restarting my 'trade Dirk for KG' campaign. I brought this up a year ago and was roundly criticized for it. Anyone still think what they got is better than KG?
3) I think we hold a massive ceremony for Dirk's MVP presentation at the AAC. We let all the season ticket holders come to the event and give Dirk the trophy. Then they get to line up single-file and each ticket holder gets a chance to kick Dirk in the junk. That seems like a fair trade for those who spent thousands on season tickets on this team.

Time for "What's on my TIVO" talk to expand to six segments. How about some Survivor talk, at least a couple of segments left in that, eh?

As low a point as this is, you have to consider the history of THE local team: the Dallas Cowboys, specifically, the Cowboys of the 60s.

That team came oh-so-close against the Packers, twice, and people then said they choked away titles. Then they dominated the league only to face first-round losses to inferior teams (the Browns). At that point, everyone figured Dallas was done.

Yet they clawed back into the hunt and eventually got their Super Bowl title.

Your Dallas Mavericks achieved some playoff success and were oh-so-close. And now they've faltered early against an inferior team. So the question is, is Dirk Nowitski the basketball equivalent of Dandy Don Meredith? The great talent who could never quite reach the pinnacle and then walked away? Or is he the equivalent of Bob Lilly, the great talent who needed someone else to assist him? And who, I ask, will be Dirk's "Roger Staubach?"

Even though I raised the comparison, I cannot equate Dirk with either Meredith or Lilly on ANY level. It's sad to admit, but last night he showed NO guts, NO cajones. How can a guy who single-handedly ended the Spurs' reign in Game 7 a year ago, on the road, lay such a massive egg (it's such a fitting metaphor, because Dirk laying an egg implies he has a p***y, not a d***) against freakin' GOLDEN STATE?

As Charlie Brown used to say, "***SIGH***."

kevin garnett? you want to trade one playoff choke artist for another?

I'll take my chances with a guy who has some passion and a low-post game(not to mention comes up big in big games) over a guy who does none of those things. KG's teams lost because he was a one-man show, Dirk's teams lost because Dirk sucks in the big games.

After 82 games leave it to The Don to expose The Mavs weakness. All year long they dont run any plays for their "5". So Nellie uses that spot to run a quicker defender at all Dallas shooters. As good as Dirk is with his fadeaway..he is very deliberate in backing his guy down and shooting. By forcing the "D" to Dirk, Nellie left Dirk no choice but to be a passer (or a 30% shooter), and with no Center to run a set play to...Dallas was done. Yikes
