BaD Radio - Recap - 3/8/11

Tuesday 3/8/11

Episode: 2887

Location: Studio

The Mix: “If I were a bird, I’d live in this place.” – Norm “Only gay people have lucky numbers.” - Bob

The Open: “I’m going to schedule me some drawwws” Happy Fat Tuesday. The show consensus is that whenever a media member uses a cliché surrounding the NFL Labor Talks and NCAA March Madness, they should get tazed.

12:40 – Dallas Stars: On this most recent road swing, the Stars have accumulated 7 of 8 possible points. Jamie Benn has been playing out of his mind; he seems to just one move ahead and a split second faster than anyone else on the ice. Nieuwendyk hit a home run with the Goligoski trade; he has been the perfect addition to this team. Hopefully getting Brad Richards back on the ice soon will be a bonus to a team that is playing extremely well right now. The Stars are about to start a home-stand; go out and support them, they deserve it.

1:00 – Gay Not Gay: Which one is gayer, the giver of the Shake Weight or the person who uses it? Ironic exemption. Two dudes showing up to dinner in horse drawn carriage? Comedy exemption. Middle-aged man in a cowboy hat alone at a bar with a glass of wine, takes a self shot picture and shortly after another guy joins him. Gay. Signing your name on a roll sheet for class with a winking smiley face after your name? Gay. Asking your buddies to go to the bathroom with you at a restaurant? Gay. How long after you please yourself must you wait before turning on the NFL Network? “Is he suggesting that the NFL Network wasn’t already on?” – Bob.

1:20 – Neftali Talk: He wants his name pronounced correctly. Yeah, it’s spring training. He also says that he would prefer to stay as the closer because he’s comfortable with it, but is willing to do whatever he is asked to do.

1:40 – Deion Sanders: Hall of Famer Deion “Prime Time” Sanders calls in to join Bob and Dan. He is so cool he doesn’t even have to wear deodorant. He still uses his Hot Dog Express and keeps it on his yacht. Concerning the Cowboys draft pick and the rumors that they are considering Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara, Deion says “He’s aight”. Not very high praise.

2:00 – Audio: Audio I was unable to get. Sorry.

2:20 – Sports Quick Hits: Kevin Love got his 51st double-double in a row, a record. Tiki Barber is coming out of retirement. Dan is usually not a fan of the Sports Speculative Segment but he had his baseball brain set to full throttle yesterday. Albert Pujols, from 2000-2010, led the league in HR, RBI and Batting Average. The Decade Triple Crown. As you look at the teams willing to sign Pujols to a major deal, and seeing that the Cliff Lee contract could have been fit into the Rangers budget; why not Albert Pujols in a Rangers uniform?

2:40 – Surprise from Surprise: What does the Rangers rotation look like without Neftali as a starting pitcher. C.J. Wilson, Colby Lewis and Tommy Hunter; after that it could be between 4 players. Holland, Kirkman, Bush and Hurley. Brandon Webb won’t be ready for the start of the season. Ogando is still a work in progress.

3:00 – WTDS: In 1971, Joe Frazier defeated Ali in “The Fight of the Century”. Happy Birthday to Brett Conway, Larry Murphy, Jim Rice, Miracle on 69th Street, Dick Hyman, Camryn Manheim and Freddie Prinz Jr. And now some spares, Dick Allen, Jason Elam, Kenny Smith, Justin Thompson. RIP to Pig Pen, Joe DiMaggio and Ray Nitschke.

BaD Radio - Recap - 1/27/11

Thursday 1/27/11

Episode: 2859

Location: Studio

The Mix: Hi, Norm. Bye, Norm. This will be a cheerleader free Super Bowl because the Steelers and Packers are eye-candy free teams. Also, Phyllis from The Office was a former NFL cheerleader. Yeah…I know.

The Open: All this medical technology and we can’t even fix a horse’s bones? Day 19 of the Dan in a Suit Flipbook. More NFL cheerleader talk (scratching head). Now marriage contract talk; Dan pines for a day when he can see couples sign marriage contracts that can be renewed or dropped after 10 years. It would keep spouses from mailing it in on the fitness side.

12:40 – Troy Aikman Talk: On the heels of a recent D Magazine story on the former Cowboys Quarterback. Bob talks about the idea that, though Troy is one of the more recognizable people in Dallas and a Cowboys legend, no one really knows the real Troy Aikman. Troy basically had the perfect career; he elevated his play in the most important games, he retired as a Cowboy and had perfect timing in getting his broadcasting job. There’s no one like Troy. It’s a very interesting and in-depth article; give it a read.

1:00 – Homer Call: Two lucky calls will advance to the next round of the playoffs -- The Finals. Boston High School Football makes its way down south and into the finals with this call. Go to the 3 minute mark. Joining the Beantown Crew will be this call made during a Maryland Field Hockey match.

1:20 – Short Segment: While Bob was watching some Senior Bowl workouts, the booth threw it down to a “sideline” reporter and she says “Guys, I have nothing. Sorry to disappoint.” Idiocracy. And here is audio of a little girl who was terribly distraught that the Bears lost against the Packers.

1:30 – Deion “Primetime” Sanders: The late, the great Deion Sanders joins BaD Radio again to produce some audio gold. Deion and Snoop Dogg are teaming up to host the Snooper Bowl, a youth football tournament held around the Super Bowl. Deion has a great idea and needs Bob and Dan’s help; www.primetimefundraiser.com He’s hosting a star studded party at his home and needs help raising money and would like BaD Radio to broadcast live from the party. We’ll see if management will let this happen. Deion, in order to be prepared for a possible Hall of Fame induction, called upon Emmitt Smith to give him some insight on what to expect, the nuance of whole presentation.

1:55 – More Primetime: Deion sticks around to talk about “Woodcock” and working with the guys on the NFL Network. He says that they don’t rehearse anything on the highlights show and they’re just a bunch of guys up there loving what they do and having fun. It’s obvious. Referencing the Jay Cutler situation, Deion says “perception is, he quit; reality is, he may have been hurt”. He is emphatic about the point that perception and reality is more often than not completely different. The perception of Deion was that he avoided tackling; the reality is it never hurt his team. Many players have been hurt but visibly showed that they wanted to go back in the game, thus giving a better perception to the fans. We never got to see the injury or Cutler begging to get back in the game so the perception was that he quit. Dan wants to see Deion’s toe. Here’s confirmation that the toe picture was not doctored. Deion’s Toe live in studio.

2:30 - More on Deion’s Toe: There was some perception late in his career that he was a wimp because of “Turf Toe”. Turf Toe is one of the most misunderstood injuries in all of sports; it’s one of the more painful injuries out there and is a game ender for anyone at a speed position. Thanks Dan for peer pressuring Prime Time into showing the toe to world. In other news, Tom’s middle name is Frederick. The more you know.

2:40 – Ranch Report: David Moore, once again, joins the show from sunny Green Bay. Dan still has no idea what the point of David Moore being in Green Bay is. Patience Dan, there will be ample coverage of what David is doing starting Sunday. Regarding what “final say” when it comes to the draft means, Garrett doesn’t understand what the big fuss is about because the Head Coach always has the deciding vote. But everyone in the room gives their opinion and makes their case. David thinks at the Cowboys current draft standing, they should stay put and get either a) a cornerback or b) a defensive tackle, in that order.

3:00 – WTDS: Mike is broadcasting from a pedicure chair. On this day in 2001, 10 people died in a plane crash outside of Denver. One year ago today, the iPad was introduce by Steve Jobs and J.D. Sallinger died a year ago. Happy Birthday to Chris Collinsworth, Chocolate Gozongas, Dave Manson, Matt Stover, Bridget Fonda, Keith Olbermann, Patton Oswalt and Mimi Rogers. The spares would be Frank Cornett, Eric Wedge, Tom Trebelhorn and Phil Plantier.

BaD Radio - Recap - 1/13/11

Thursday 1/13/11

Episode: 2849

Location: Studio

The Open: Brilliance. Wouldn’t you rather have a shirt made by small children hoping for food, they put their heart into that shirt? Day 9 of Dan in a Suit Flipbook. Is Dan’s tie racist? More on this later. It’s the birthday of “the Geico Pothole” Pick up your phone!!

12:35 – Deion Sanders: The late the great Deion “Prime Time” Sanders joins Bob, Dan and Donny and talks about the Snooper Bowl that he is hosting. Prime Time thinks that so far, the Cowboys have made the right moves in the offseason so far. “Humpty didn’t fall, he was pushed.” Deion says that his “scary” teams still in the playoffs are Baltimore and Green Bay; Deion would never bet against Brady, unless the weather is bad. Unfortunately, Deion never said aggressiveness. Maybe next time.

12:55 – Homer Call Playoffs: Another round of Wild Card entries, one will move on and join Jesuit in the next round. Southwestern Oklahoma State versus Southeastern Oklahoma State advance.

1:15 – Mavericks Talk: Dallas is coming off a loss to the once impossibly-white Indiana Pacers and the show looks at some different reasons for this recent swoon. Dirk’s status for MVP is growing with each game that he misses; the team, as it is right now, is a borderline lottery team. This is not a team that can create its own shot in the half-court and Dirk’s injury should not be used as an excuse but it is evident how greatly this team relies on him.

1:35 – Joe Nieuwendyk: The Stars’ GM joins Bob and Dan in studio. They exchange some pleasantries such as state of the family, what the kids are up to, where is the Conn Smyth trophy, etc. Unlike a lot of young Canadian players, Joe didn’t leave home until he came to the U.S. to play college hockey at Cornell. The skate to the subject of Jamie Benn and how a guy with his talent slid to the 5th round; amateur scouting is a tough part of the GM job.

1:50 – More Joe Nieuwendyk: A second segment with Joe Nieuwendyk in the studio. Dan brings up weather and how the cold makes Joe feel right at home. Weather talk… They discuss some of the key off-season moves made by the GM; Modano and Turco leaving were some of the harder decision. He goes on to say that having the team mindset was priority number one and backed that up by bring in Jamie Langenbrunner last week.

2:20 –Dan’s News: Eagles’ Fans Destroy Packers’ Fan’s Cars. Somewhere Tom is jumping up and down while eating a cheesesteak. Bob tells a story of old Chicago Stadium, located in a rough part of Chicago. After you park, a young group of kids would charge you $10 to “protect” your car -- in other words, $10 not to mess with your car. And then there is this story of Brett Favre’s meth lab making sister, Brandi Favre.

2:30 – Ranch Report: David Moore joins the show and wants to play some Whiskey Laser Tag. More defensive coordinator talk with Vic Fangio and Greg Manusky being the center of discussion. The report is interrupted by a call to Dayci the Geico Pothole, David is just here to sit in the corner and listen. They recruit her for a second season of Fantasy Football; she hopes for a better showing than last place.

3:00 – WTDS: Mike’s autobiography is titled, “I Liked It More When We Were All Nizzles”. In 1794, two stars were added to the flag. Dan claims to have no Cheech and Chong experience (they were not the stars added). “There’s plenty of hot GILF out there!” Happy Birthday to the Forsch Brothers who each threw a no-hitter, Down the Hatch 13, Kevin Mitchell, Bam Morris, Mark O’Meara, McDreamy, Nicole Eggert, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Rip Taylor. Spares today include; Kent Hull. RIP Ted Demme
