BaD Radio - Recap - 1/21/11

Friday 1/21/11

Episode: 2855

Location: Studio

The Mix: All 9 Ticket hosts vs Jay Ratliff (fighting for his life and his family’s life). Who would win?

The Open: BaD Radio, reporting for duty (ha, duty). The boys from Bad Radio receive a gift from the fine gentlemen at www.beardski.com – no, it was not packed in coffee grounds. Grubeski. Bobski. Maybe he’ll wear it when he goes to see the Bears play at Soldier Field while he’s sitting with TC?

12:35 – NFL Playoffs: These NFL playoffs have reinforced the age old cliché of “Any Given Sunday”. At this point in the playoffs it’s asinine to hope for a certain team over another. No one gave the Jets a chance, yet they mowed through Peyton Manning and Tom Brady and have Ben Rothlisberger in their sights. If the Steelers win the Super Bowl this year they will have 3 Super Bowl titles since ’05; uncool. A little bit of dramatic irony, if the Bears would have won their last game of the season, Tampa Bay would have been in the playoffs rather than Green Bay.

12:55 – TiVo Jr: This Dan-centric segment focuses on American Idol. Allow me to sum it up for you; Steven Tyler looks like a tranny version of Steven Tyler, J-Lo is very hot and hates being mean to people and Randy Jackson (the former weakest link) is now the rock of the show. People sing. Some are good, most suck. Everybody misses Simon.

1:15 – Steve Ott Show: Steve Ott joins the show from Alberta, Canada. The Stars are in the midst of a very solid run, 15 of 16 possible points since the start of the new year. All 8 game win streaks aside, Dan wants to ask about a pre-game fight that almost happened. In a little bit of gamesmanship, Mike Ribeiro would “violate” the red line during pre-game warm-ups. It’s like when you’re riding in the backseat of your parents’ stationwagon and you and your sister get into a fight because you keep putting your hand onto “her side of the seat”. Sports!! Segment Audio here.

1:35 – 2000 All-Star Team Talk: Coming off a tough loss at Chicago last night, the Mavericks have some serious decisions to make; the most important being, should they sit Dirk for a few weeks until he is 100%? In the playoffs, 70% Dirk is acceptable in the playoffs, but there is no reason to have him out there in January. The Mavs are close to signing Peja Stojakovic; just what they need, a soft Euro jump shooter. Also, Manny Ramirez is in talks with joining the Texas Rangers. Do they really want Manny? All things being equal, who would you take, Manny or Vlad?

1:55 – Ask Sports Sturm: This addition has little to do with sports, unless you count Survivor and skateboarding as sports. Judson Birza, air-head surfer winner of the most recent Survivor, was recently arrested. Check out the video. It’s safe to say I would not trade financial portfolios with him. Bob soon goes from TMZ Sturm to Sports Sturm with a little study he’s been doing based on the claim that Dan made that it was ridiculous that Eric Spoelstra’s first coaching gig was with the Miami Heat. A couple of other coaches that have taken odd roads to get there; Eric Mangini and Brian Bellick are a few road less traveled examples.

2:20 – Songs to Bob: Dan and Donovan, with the best intentions at heart, attempt to pump Bob up for his trip to Chicago to watch the NFC Championship game. Listen to their songs here. I smell a Grammy!

2:35 – Screenless: This could be the greatest beer dispenser of all time. The 100 Greatest Movie Insults of All Time. This guy is insane. Did this player really deserve a penalty?

3:00 – WTDS: Mike sunk Greggo’s battleship. On this day in 1921, Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis became Commissioner of Baseball. Breaking news, Ditka is picking the Bears. Happy Birthday to Brian Giles, Billy “White Shoes” Johnson, Jack Nicklaus, Hakeem Olajuwon, Ranger Great Rusty Greer, Geena Davis, and Muff Bumpers 2. Spares include John Cheney, Dalton Hilliard and Grady Jackson.

Listen to BaD Radio everyday from 12 – 3pm on Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket. I do, and I has opulence.

BaD Radio - Recap - 1/14/11

Friday 1/14/11

Episode: 2850

Location: Studio

The Mix: Bob needs to brush up on his women and animals sports. Some fun is made at the expense of the two winners that got to sit in the studio for Norm’s show. @tweetgrubes is quaffed and Norm likes Green Bay as a double play. Too bad Paul the Octopus is not around to reverse the curse.

The Open: Did anybody Brown Out at Guy’s Night Out last night? A little Guy’s Night Out talk to start the show; Dan relives a tale of getting owned at a party. He got “Sharpie’d”. “You have to get the silver sharpie for Donovan.” Dan starts talking about the book “Googled” and the perks of working at Google. Bob also recommends the book “Lone Survivor”. Check it out.

12:40 – Rob Ryan Talk: As word is spreading that Rob Ryan is in talks with the Cowboys about becoming the Defensive Coordinator, Bob and Dan take a deeper look into the possibility. What he lacks in resume, he makes up for in pedigree. He’s never had stellar players under his lead, but where do you draw the line when it comes to whether the coach or players should get the credit/blame. He’s a “Ryan” and he’s worked under Belichick; two great points that show he is a leader of men. It should be an interesting interview today.

1:00 – NFL Talk: A great weekend of football is upon us and BaD Radio wax philosophical about the upcoming matchups. The Seahawks/Bears game is one that sparks some interest; a rematch of the regular season, a surprising Seahawks D against a shaky Bears O-line, but the Bears at home in the weather. The Packers/Atlanta game is shaping up to be a good one with the line now at Atlanta (-2.5). Matt Ryan vs Aaron Rodgers, this game could come down to the team that scores last. Steelers/Ravens could possibly be the best game of the weekend. Old-school football, lots of injury timeouts and big plays; great football. Jets/Patriots – more on this later.

1:15 – Steve Ott: The great Steve Ott joins the show and gives Bob and Dan some insight into what he’s done with his 3 days off. They had a workout at the Star’s center in Farmers Branch and he described it as cold. Seems obvious. His dad, every winter, would take the water hose out and water the backyard until he had a rink built. Oh, Canada. He goes on to say that Sean Avery returning to Dallas did not create a lot of buzz in the locker room; unlike the buzz that was created by the media. Ott reiterates that the Langenbrunner addition is a great one for this team. Stephane Robidas now wields the Warrior Sword.

1:35 – Jets/Patriots: First some audio, THIS IS RIDICULOUS. And here is some Wes Welker audio in which he references “feet” or “foot” 11 times in his press conference. A deadpan performance by Welker; taking a shot a Rex Ryan and his foot fetish.

2:00 – Ask Sports Sturm: In this addition, Bob addresses the Stars’ attendance issue this year. They are down 13.5% from last year, a very large number. League wide, the NHL is at 91% capacity for the year and the NBA is at 89%; we could be a tipping point where the price of tickets plus the number of teams in a city, coupled with the average person’s economic state, is a reason for the low numbers. Of the lowest 11 teams in attendance in the NHL, 10 of them are in “warm weather cities”. On the whole, NBA attendance is doing worse than the NHL.

2:15 – Donovan’s Movie Review: In another edition of “White People Movies Donovan has Never Seen”; Spinal Tap, Caddyshack, Top Gun, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Wayne’s World, Fargo, Gladiator, Goodfellas and the Godfather (the top 10, from 10 to 1). Fight Club is the latest entry and Donovan says “Make room at the bottom of the list for Fight Club, I didn’t get it”. He only points out the funny parts, the “Bitch Tits” and “The water hose and the priest”. With Fight Club off the list, JAWS is the next movie to be reviewed. Dun Dun.

2:40 – Screenless: As is the case every Friday, the show ends the week by taking un-screened phonecalls and this recap provides you with some of the best videos on the internet. Enjoy. The worst sorority ever. The Best of Jerry Springer. This Parrot can dance better than you.

3:00 – WTDS: Happy Birthday to Terry Forster, Byron Leftwich, One in the Snapper One in the Crapper, Jason Bateman, Faye Dunaway, LL Cool J, Kyle Brady, Gibby Gilbert, I’m done with this. Time for the weekend.

Listen to BaD Radio everyday from 12 – 3pm on Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket. I do, and I has opulence.

BaD Radio - Recap - 1/7/11

Friday 1/7/11

Episode: 2845

Location: AAC for a Red Cross Blood Drive

The Mix: For the mix, Bob joins Norm via phone and Norm picks his brain about the Stars signing Jamie Langenbrunner. Norm says there is a big difference in hockey compared to other sports when it comes to free agents who are up in age. They’re obviously just trying to kill time.

The Open: The following takes place between 12 and 3 pm. Dear tiny baby Christmas Jesus, bless this show. Day 5 of Dan in a Suit Flipbook. Dan proposes a great question; does the Red Cross have any competitors? Gribble is the only one on the show how actually has an idea of what his bloodtype is, O something. Grubes is going to sneak into the Super Bowl in a backpack like Yoda.

12:40 – Cowboys: Bob and Dan look at the statement by Jerry Jones; Jason Garrett will have full control over all personnel and assistant coaches. Jerry appears to try and save face by saying it has always been that way, and that this is not a big change in his philosophy. There is evidence to support both sides of the argument. Jimmy, Parcells and Garrett had control; Gailey, Phillips and Campo seemingly did not.

12:50 – More Cowboys: After the press conference yesterday, Jerry stayed behind to answer some questions and soak up the moment a little more. Jerry continues to reiterate that Garrett will have final say in the picking of all coaches and personnel. Garrett was hand-picked for the job by Jerry in 2007; this could be the reason that Jerry is giving him all the power as opposed to some of the previous coaches in the Cowboys history. With this responsibility, only time will tell if Garrett has the skill and knowledge to make the right decision when it comes to evaluating talent. A copy of the transcript is here.

1:20 – The Steve Ott Show: The Stars center joins the show for his first installment of the New Year. Steve Ott weighs in on the Jamie Langenbrunner signing; he thinks it should be an easy transition seeing that Langenbrunner has a history with Dallas. He should bring a solid leadership presence to a young club. Some final 24/7 Pens Caps talk. Dan wonders if the Stars have any sort of pre or post game rituals. The Stars have a sarcastic “Warrior Award” that gets presented to the player with the softest injury that they have to play through. Some of the injuries include a scratch on the face or a busted lip. A higher level of comedy, certainly. Listen to the Audio here, courtesy of the Dallas Stars.

1:40 – Stars Talk: Sean Avery makes his return to Dallas tonight. One of the worst moves in Dallas Stars history was bringing in Avery, seeing that Dallas still owes him $8 million while only playing 23 games. Good job Brett Hull. Here is an interesting article that was the focus of this segment. Tune in tonight to The Ticket for all Stars coverage.

2:00 – Stephen McGee: Former Aggie Stephen McGee joins the show and speaks very well of new coach Jason Garrett (as to be expected). McGee addresses his lack of time in practice with the first team receivers; very common when you’re a 3rd string quarterback. This is the reason for more targets going the way of Manny Johnson and Jesse Holley, as opposed to Miles and Witten. It’s all about chemistry. McGee says that along with the NFL being faster, it is also smarter when it comes to pre-snap disguises and schemes. He threw a perfect deep ball to Bob…

2:25 – Audio of the Week/Screenless: Is it fact or fiction that ducks killed themselves when Boise State put in the infamous blue field, thinking it was a pond. Tom confirms this urban legend. The Audio of the Week is -- as to be expected -- Homeless Golden Voice. As the show goes Screenless, this recap will also go “Screenless”, so here are some links that have nothing to do with the show. Enjoy. Wiffle Ball Madness. The best song of 2010. And an epic eggroll.

3:00 – WTDS: You like the Doors? Tom is Jim Morrison. A co-ed joins the show (she’s drunk) and she’ll care for your kids one day. She got hit in the stomach by a Phillies foul ball once. Happy Birthday to Donald Brashear, Eddie LeBaron, Nicolas Cage, Erin Gray, Butt Man’s Bend Over Babes and Kenny Loggins. Spares are Jeff Montgomery, Jeff Pearlman, Todd Day and Scott Galbraith.

Listen to BaD Radio everyday from 12 – 3pm on Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket. I do, and I has opulence.
