Sori Gone?

Peter Gammons says:

Dec 6 - The Dodgers are close to acquiring second baseman Alfonso Soriano from the Rangers for right-handed pitching prospect Jonathan Broxton, reports ESPN's Peter Gammons.

Such a move could allow the Dodgers to move incumbent second baseman Jeff Kent to first base.

The Rangers were apparently trying to engage the Mets in talks for Soriano, with the hope of getting Steve Trachsel in return, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.

In addition, according to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs and Rangers discussed a multi-player deal: pitcher Jerome Williams, outfielder Corey Patterson and second baseman Todd Walker to Texas for Soriano and outfielder Kevin Mench.

I am pretty sure I would do this, but of course I have questions.

Who plays 2B?

Can you trade Soriano and not get a Starting pitcher back?

Where do you get your run production? Wait. Forget that one. The Ballpark has proven that even David Dellucci can hit 29 home runs in 435 AB’s. 1 Home Run every 15 At Bats. For comparison, Alex Rodriguez last season hit 1 HR every 12.6 AB’s, Manny Ramirez one ever 12.3, and Vladimir Guerrero one HR every 16.25 AB’s!!! So, don’t worry about trading bats for arms. Everyone has a bat in Arlington.

My June 18th essay on Sori and the Rangers ...He surely wasn't someone they planned on keeping...

Who is Jonathan Broxton?

Reason #28 why I don’t gamble. I would have been willing to bet against the Mavericks last night for sure. No Jason Terry, No Josh Howard, No Jerry Stackhouse, No help for Dirk. And yet, between the defense, the unconscious play of the German, and the surprising Adrian Griffin, they get a nice win against the Pacers; Dirk is amazing again; Mavs win in Indiana

The Mavericks, owners of a modest three-game winning streak, were the decisively better team for the second consecutive night. Nowitzki had a more efficient night than he had Monday against the Bulls, when he took a cue from Kobe Bryant and hoisted 28 shots for 35 points. Against the Pacers, he needed only 19 heaves to rack up 31 points to go with 11 rebounds and three blocks.

"He's one of the best players in the NBA," said Indiana's Stephen Jackson. "You have to take your hat off to him the way he carries his team."

Nowitzki said he's feeling the need to do so with Josh Howard, Jerry Stackhouse and Jason Terry all on the sideline with injuries.

"That's 40 points [missing]," he said. "So there are some shots I have to take. I jacked up 28 shots [Monday]. That's a lot of shots. But I have to be aggressive now. We don't really have a great scoring team out there. We only scored 80-something. But it was enough to win."

So, Monday, Adrian Griffin in his 3rd game back with the Mavericks, plays 37 minutes, scores 14, and grabs 12 rebounds to help them beat Chicago. Last night, more modest numbers, but again big minutes to beat Indiana. Devin Harris is really stepping forward as well in these last two nights. Pay close attention to this, as the Mavericks have to make a point guard decision very soon (Jason Terry is in his final year) and if Harris continues to shine, Wally Pipp may be brought up. One problem of course is when you have a backcourt of Devin and Marquis Daniels, you have a turnover prone backcourt. Quisy had one of those nights (5 turnovers/ 1 assist) where I think his basketball IQ is dangerously similar to Warren…

Page 2 with a really funny look at dudes wearing Jerseys

Is it OK to wear a sports jersey?

Yes, provided you are a professional or amateur athlete and are participating in an actual sporting event.

Otherwise, you probably look like a clown. Which, it should be noted, is only a small step up from a mime.

Since this was requested last night on my email, I thought I would post it again: Lee Corso versus BaD Radio archive

Finding the Liger
In case you want to frustrate yourselves, here is a USA TODAY baseball salary database …use it to find payroll information for Rangers and see what they are not doing…

Liverpool shuts down Chelsea (again) and win the group …So, might Chelsea has played 360 minutes in Champions League football against Liverpool in 2005. Total goals? 0. Guess you need to purchase more players, Chelski.

“All sequences come to an end eventually," Rafael Benítez had offered in the build-up to this contest, yet Liverpool's merely stretches on and on. It is now a staggering 834 minutes since the Champions League holders last shipped a goal, an under-strength rearguard failing to notice Crystal Palace's Marco Reich amble into space at the far post to convert beyond Scott Carson in October. Since then Liverpool have become synonymous with everything impregnable.

Chelsea huffed and puffed here last night but, apart from a lively ending to the first period and a frenetic opening to the second when Arjen Robben passed up one of the few legitimate chances they created, the Premiership champions rarely looked like blowing the visitors apart. Not that the locals should have been surprised. Piercing Liverpool has become an increasingly daunting proposition. Benítez's side have now suffocated nine teams in succession, their remarkable run of clean sheets honing in on the club record of 10 achieved back in 1987-88.

Here are some emails:

Screw world series champ payrolls. These are the Rangers we're talking about. What's the payroll for most PLAYOFF teams. I'll bet you its almost UNANIMOUSLY in the upper echelon. Hicks has become a caricature of himself, a walking Scrooge. He can't talk baseball for 5 minutes without bringing up money. It's laughable. Compare his sports interviews to Jerry Jones...or Cuban. Laughable.

And now this:

Bob,
The funny thing about cancer (nobody but Gordo has ever issued that line) is that once it shows up in a body, or team in this case, it's not just simply removed and gone forever. I've seen Philly before without the services of an injured McNabb and that team rallied around their THIRD string quarterback and fought like crazy. There's something wrong with that team and it's something I don't think even a healthy McNabb could cure right now.

Bob, you issued the "T.O. is cancer" line and now it's time for you to run to midfield, stand on the star and point to the scoreboard. I knew you were right, but I had no idea how right.

I am the man.

I like the cheap shot you fired at Chelski Bob. I guess your selective memory forgets that they walked into Anfield and handed Liverpool their asses (4-1)in the one place it actually matters this season...the Premier League.

From the description, Broxton reminds me of Huston Street. Anyone who is more in tune with Broxton, please give us a little insight on this kid. His ERA doesn't look all that great, but his K/BB ratio is nice.

Adam Morris or maybe Norm would know this, but wasn't the Ranger offense these past few years pretty anemic at the Ballpark compared to visiting teams, even corrected for our (on average) worse pitching? It's hard to remember because I've spent the last four months of my life trying to block out all Ranger thoughts because Tom Hicks is such a jackass.

me thinks Chelski fan has an odd opinion: I like the cheap shot you fired at Chelski Bob. I guess your selective memory forgets that they walked into Anfield and handed Liverpool their asses (4-1)in the one place it actually matters this season...the Premier League.

To Chelsea premier league > European Cup???? sounds like a team that hasn't won a European Cup lately.

No, Bob. My point was that the two games in which they've played each other in the Champions League have had little if any recourse in whether or not either was moving forward out of the Group Stages. One could argue that they were just playing out the string yesterday (and if you watched, this is highly likely) as everything was already set for the next round. My point was that in the grand scheme of things, drawing with Chelsea in the Champions League twice is of little consequence. What they should be concerning themselves with not dropping points in the Premier League where they're much more valuable. My argument had nothing to do with sour grapes over last season's Champions League. If that were the case, I'd have brought up the tiny point that Chelsea would have shut out L'pool for 360 minutes if not for a VERY questionable "goal" in the second leg last season. Of which even you yourself said you weren't sure it was a goal. At any rate, my overall thought was that Liverpool should work on qualifying legitmately for next year's Champions League and work on winning their first league title in 15 years, instead of a half-assed accomplishment of keeping Chelsea of the score sheet.

I don't even know why I'm making this argument...I don't support either of those teams.

So, it's Terrell Owens' fault that the Eagles receivers can't catch a ball? It's TO's fault that Greg Lewis is soft? It's TO's fault that Quintin Mikell has forgotten how to tackle? It's TO's fault that Brian Westbrook, Tre Thomas, Donovan McNabb, Lito Sheppard, Dirk Johnson, Correll Buckhalter, Artis Hicks, Jerome McDougal, Todd Pinkston, Donald Strickland, Paul Grasmanis, Hank Fraley, and Sam Rayburn are all hurt?

There are lots of reasons that the Eagles suck this year. TO is only one of them. Granted, it's a big one, but it's only one.

ok, so is bronxton a starter or reliever? why give sori for a reliever?

Can't you say that Liverpool has been playing just as well as chelski the last 5 or 6 games of the premeirship? I don't care about either team too.

For what it's worth, Gammons just said on ESPN that Soriano won't be going anywhere because "nobody wants him."

Soriano for BRAD FREAKIN' WILKERSON!?!?! Are you kidding me?

How can you trade your best asset for a spare OF/DH? They didn't even get a pitcher in the deal.

Give me a break.

So Hicks longterm commitment to win responsibly so far has us at A-Rod for a .248 hitting Expo spare!!!

Huge baseball fan, but man its hard to root for the Rangers when ultimately you want Hicks to fail and sell the Rangers to a Competitor who doesn't think that fans are idiots
