He thanked everyone but The Ticket!

On Thursday, Emmitt had his press conference to say good-bye (and mention everyone who he ever played with), and it gave us all a chance to reflect on his greatness. Honestly, I might prefer another RB if the name of the game is to fill the highlight tapes. Barry Sanders and Gale Sayers both knock your socks off with their wild moves. But, if the name of the game is to deliver what your team requires week in and week out, then we must consider the steady performances of Emmitt. Take a look at Emmitt Smith’s numbers . Pay special attention to his durability. He stayed on the field for 4400+ carries and 18000+ yards, and to do that, your body has to hold up through the punishment of the NFL like no one else can.

So, if you are debating the “greatest RB of all-time”, then maybe you look to Walter Payton, Sanders, or Jim Brown. But, Emmitt fans surely can make a claim that he is the conversation. He was a great player and a Cowboys legend.

By the way, consider that to break Emmitt’s all-time rushing record, you need either 9+ 2000-yard seasons, almost 13 seasons of 1500 yards or more than 15 years of 1200 yards. Any way you slice it, it will not be easy to knock Emmitt off his perch.

And for all this, the payroll cost for '05 will be a mere $55 million, which is dipping toward the lower-third of clubs in the major leagues.

Sure, there's a large question looming for the coming season.

Without having made one major upgrade over the winter, can the Rangers really have everything fall perfectly into place for a second consecutive season?
The rotation, the bullpen, the needed bat for the middle of the order. None of that help was added in this off-season.

Hicks boasts of having financial flexibility, but what he is currently lacking is financial credibility.

It's amusing to think the biggest money commitments made this winter were new contracts for his mysterious general manager and his manager.

Buck Showalter earned his hefty raise. The other guy is working a lucrative scam.
But by April, season ticket sales (at last year's prices) are expected to show an increase for the first time in four years.

That's an obvious tipoff that Michael Young, Mark Teixeira, Laynce Nix, Hank Blalock, Kevin Mench, etc., are bringing fans back to The Ballpark.
Later this month, however, individual game tickets go on sale with the first price increase in four years.

Hicks is paying less than ever to own the team. He wants the fans to pay more than ever to watch his team.

It's not about a couple of bucks per ticket, it's about the principle of the thing.

The great Bill Simmons cannot do the Super Bowl trick as well as I can , but give him credit for trying…Of course, the Super Bowl trick is the annoying ability to name the teams, score, MVP, and site of every Super Bowl on request…

Apparently, Gilbert Grape is not worried with the big game

Finally, there's at least one person in America who's not suffering from Super Bowl fever. Yes, it's Leonardo DiCaprio, who on Monday told Access Hollywood that he didn't know who was playing in the game.
