Stars Make a Trade at the Draft

Goodbye to Niko Kapenen as He and a 7th rounder are off to Atlanta for former Top Pick Patrick Stefan and D-Man Jaro Modry...

Interesting. Looks like they are squaring up the Center spot knowing that Arnott may not be back.

Kapanen's a good fit for ATL. Stefan's a former #e overall who never panned out. Maybe a change of scenery will help him make a marginal improvement which would make him serviceable.

Modry used to be a Boucher type D man who didn't play like one last year. I don't see how he helps the D situation.

Unless this is a first piece of some wheeling and dealing beyond covering for Arnott leaving it doesn't seem to address much in the way of substance for the Stars.

How about that Luongo-Bertuzzi trade? Master stroke for the Canucks.

Well... Chris Pronger wants out of Edmonton in the worst way, allegedly (read: ESPN reporting) because his wife hates living up there. He has a few more years on his contract, and the thought of living up there for 4-5 more years isn't working for them. So... would the Stars be interested? Who could they offer? Say, Guerin and a defenseman like Trevor Daley?

Patrick Stefan was indeed a stud in juniors. I lump him in the Pavel Brendl category. Both players tore it up in juniors. They had size, showed amazing goal-scoring and playmaking skills and then haven't done diddly in the NHL. I know the jump to the NHL from juniors is incredibly tough, but it still boggles me that Stefan and Brendl aren't at least 30-goal scorers by now.

as a thrashers fan, (yes, there are a few of us) i like this trade. stefan is a talented player, however he is a fragile as they come. hopefully a change of scenery will help this kid. kapenen will give the trash a needed third center with defenive skill and energy. good all-around. modry is past his prime and may help a contender, but no use on a younger squad.

Glad to see we can talk hockey offseason in Dallas...that is until Dallas Cowboys training camp starts.

Yeah I really dont want to see Luongo 4 times a year. Thats gay.
Wont miss Bertuzzi though.

Supposedly this guy Modry is ok playing point on the power play, which would be welcome if theyd sit Ninnima on his ass. Way too much of that guy on the power play vs the Avalanche in the 1st round.

I kind of liked Niko....
