BaD Radio - Recap - 4/19/11

Tuesday 4/19/11

Episode: 2917

Location: SMU Athletic Forum

The Mix: “Bill Jones has the tiniest mouth in broadcast history.” - Donovan

The Open: “Richard…were you watching Spankter-vision?” The show is at the Anatole for the SMU Athletic Forum and they are dressed nicer than normal, but not as good/bad as LeBron last night. Only a black guy can pull that off. Donovan went to a concert Saturday night, Baby Face and Charlie Wilson. When he got to his car after the concert, there was a torn piece of paper on his windshield with a message in hot hand writing saying “Please call me”. He called it and a voicemail message came up and said “This is the Josh Bell of the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers”. It went on to invite him to a party that he was hosting. He’s a spare. Bob has no idea who he is. What a weird way to advertise for a party. Bob got a phone call from a girl named Stacy, “Stacy…the girl from the threesome.”

12:40 – Mavs Talk: Danny Crawford is going to be one of the refs for tonight’s game versus Portland. Going back 10 or 12 years, the Mavericks are 2-16 in playoff games that Danny Crawford refs. Tim Donaghy, the ref who got busted for betting and stuff, allegedly was told by Danny Crawford that he should bet against the Mavs whenever Danny is reffing. Bob thinks that the Mavericks, as a group of players, now have some sort of excuse in their head now that they know that Crawford is doing this game. He wouldn’t be surprised if the Mavericks show a lot of frustration tonight. After game 1, Dirk said that “this win won’t matter if we lose game 2”. That is a great mentality to take into game 2.

1:00 – Gay Not Gay: Is it gay for a married man to have nearly 300 miniature porcelain animal trinkets next to his bed? Yes. Is it gay to flaunt your military service? Tom says no.

1:20 – Coach K: Waiting for Coach K, they argue about who was the coach of Dream Team 1-394858372. Someone needs to be tazed. It all comes around to Coach K doing a great job of coaching the US National Team. Whether or not you’re a fan of him or not, he’s a brilliant college basketball coach and basketball mind.

1:35 – Coach K: The Duke of Duke sits down with Bob, Dan and Donovan. He starts off by saying that he is a fan of the NBA but doesn’t have one team that he roots for because he has former players and former assistant coaches (from the National Team) on various NBA teams. Coach K says it is very difficult to give up college basketball because he enjoys teaching young guys in their formative years. He enjoys taking the journey with the young guys and helping them achieve their goals. Coach K considers himself part of the faculty of Duke, a teacher. Regarding his tenure at Duke, he doesn’t like to think about or have an end date in place because he believes you can pace to that day. He considers coaching and winning the World Championship and the Olympic gold medal is his top accomplishment. He also says it’s the most high pressure coaching situation he’s been in because of the expectation to win every single game. Coach K embraces being “the other team” in the most recent documentaries about UNLV and The Fab Five. He also goes on to say that if someone wants to make a documentary about Duke, he’d be on board.

2:00 – Rangers Talk: There were 2 standout performances last night, C.J. Wilson and Jim Knox. On the other side of the spectrum, Chris Davis once again struggled at the plate as a Ranger. He dominates AAA but when he puts on the Rangers uniform, something in his head doesn’t adjust. Mitch Moreland on the other hand, has proven that he is a more solid big leaguer than anyone imagined. C.J. Wilson will be a free agent at the end of this year, he apparently had a number in mind and the Rangers offered something that wasn’t close. If he puts together a year similar to last year, the price to sign him will be very very high.

2:20 – Some Audio from the Rangers Game: Knoxy found 2 Dallas Stars, Toby Peterson and Kari Lehtonen, and Knoxy asked them who they wanted as head coach. Awkward question. Then Rhads asks Mark McLemore if he was a hockey fan, another awkward question. Mark gave the most generic answer ever. Mitch Moreland “lunch pail” comparison to Rusty Greer. Knoxy found a crazy Brit that was extremely drunk and extremely English. He says the Rangers are “lovely jubley” and then loudly screws up the “O’Day” chant. Then Knoxy found the oldest person in the ballpark, 94 year old Marian who says that she is going to paint the town red for her birthday.

2:40 – Dan turned his TV on thinking it was on the Rangers game, FSN. Turns out it was on E or something like that and it was a “Period Commercial”. Donovan was on the CBS 11 news talking about the cancellation of Soap Operas. The news called the station asking for Donovan and then drove to the station from Fort Worth to interview him. We need a bigger news story.

3:00 – WTDS: On this day in 1993, the siege at the Branch Davidian Complex in Waco ended and in 1995 the Oklahoma City Bombing happened. Happy Birthday to Jack Pardee, Al Unser Jr., Tim Curry, White Guys Between Black Thighs, James Franco, Kate Hudson, Ashley Judd and Rod Morganstein. Spares include Harris Barton, Keith Jackson, Spike Owen, Jack Roush and Maria Sharapova. RIP Dudley Moore, Dick Sargent, Jane Mansfield and David Koresh and Charles Darwin.

Listen to BaD Radio everyday from 12 – 3pm on Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket. I do, and I has opulence.
