BaD Radio - Recap - 4/27/11

Wednesday 4/27/11

Episode: 2923

Location: Studio

The Mix: “Mile-high club, Norm?” - Donovan

The Open: “Guards, make sure the prince doesn’t leave the room until I come and get him…” It is Administrative Professionals Day (formerly Secretary’s Day), so PC. Bob is trying to avoid seeing the score of the Champions League game until 9pm tonight, the rest of the show is making the sacrifice too. Meanwhile, it’s Donovan’s 15th Wedding Anniversary. This raises the question of what’s the percentage of married couples that have sex on their anniversary.

12:35 – Sports Viewing: Vancouver and Chicago had a game 7 last night with some drama. Vancouver, a #1 seed, won the first 3 games of the series only to have Chicago come back and win the next 3. Vancouver went up 1-0 early and with 1 minute left in the game, Chicago tied it, short-handed. Vancouver ended up winning in OT. The Dallas Stars’ own Razor was the color commentator for the national broadcast on Versus. Bob thinks he’s one of, if not the best, hockey analyst out there.

1:00 – TiVo Talk: Bob has a question that he posed to the Twitterverse, should I watch Game of Thrones or The Killing or both? Game of Thrones seems to be the unanimously loved by all. Bob has only seen the first 15 minutes and it appears to a fantasy style show. Dan has seen the first few shows of The Killing and is being compared by some to be very Wire-esque. Some people wonder how far the storyline can actually be carried on. The Borgias is also new as well as the new season of Treme, but buzz is not high on them. The Voice on NBC topped out the ratings for the night and Katie Couric has left her job as being the lead anchor for the CBS Evening News.

1:20 – Rangers Talk: Matt Harrison got lit up last night against the Blue Jays but it was his only non-quality start of the season. The leash is really small when it comes to Harrison in the public’s opinion because he has yet to prove anything for an extended stretch of time. Darren O’Day is now on the DL with a torn muscle in his hip. The Rangers bullpen is in some serious trouble with two 40 year olds and a group of setup guys that not many fans have ever heard of. Yet, they have the second best record in the American League.

1:40 – The Tom Grieve Show: Tom is happy with where the Rangers are now but still has some concern about the bullpen. He had no idea that the Feliz injury was on the horizon, it completely caught him off guard. Tom thinks that Pedro Strop, if he gets some confidence, can be a big time part of the bullpen with the type of stuff that he has. We know that Feliz is a top tier closer but we “think” Feliz can be a front line starter. With Ogando, we know that he can is a good 8th inning guy and we know that he is a good starter so far. Tom would have some hesitation moving Ogando back to the bullpen. Julio Borbon made an off-balanced throw to get a runner out at 3rd. Tom called it one of the better throws he’s ever seen. The ball traveled about 40 ft then bounced and rolled to 3rd base. He used some hyperbole. They go on to talk about the sudden emergence of Jose Bautista; Tom says that he’s hard pressed to come up with someone who is such a late bloomer like Bautista. Grieve also thinks that Knoxy is having a career year.

2:00 – Bob’s World: Bob is complaining about removing ivy from his house. He’s feeling pretty good about his victory, yet it will be short lived.

2:15 – The Name Game Redux: Norm is famous for his Draft Name Game, he uses his poetic skills to put together a reading of the names from each year’s draft. Dan decided to do his own. Dan has Norm’s cadence down pat. Dan nailed it.

2:35 – NFL Draft: In two of the last three drafts, we have known who the Cowboys were going to pick in the first round before the draft even started. This year is not the case. Here are the 4 names the Cowboys are considering: Tyron Smith, Cameron Jordan, J.J. Watt and Anthony Castonzo. Bob thinks that Tyron Smith is the Cowboys’ guy; his opinion is based on the fact that he is 20 years old and by the time Smith is 23, he’ll be one of the better Offensive Tackles in football. There is a possibility that the Cowboys could trade down to 12 or 13. The Cowboys would probably get an extra 3rd round pick in that scenario. Castonzo may be a better rookie but Tyron Smith has the upside to make him a stud in this league.

3:00 – WTDS: On this day in 1973, Steve Busby threw a no-hitter as a rookie. Happy Birthday to Chris Carpenter, Frank Catalanotto, George Gervin, Hershey Highway 13, Leroy Jordan, Chuck Knox, Ace Frayley and Casey Kasem. Spares include Tony Eusebio, Doug Buffone, Mike Krushelnyski. RIP Peter Ham and Edward R. Murrow.
